Karthauserhof, Eitelsbacher Karthauserhofberg Riesling Auslese, Mosel

I'm a big fan of the Ruwer, and Karthauserhof in particular. I've never had one with this much age, however, so was excited to find some at auction for a good price. The fill was good (2.5 cm) and the cork in pretty good condition. The color was within the range of what you might expect for a 45+ year old riesling: a rich dark gold. On the nose, apples, quince and petrol, with medium body, low to moderate acidity …

Pale golden color after many quiet years of sleep in my cellar. A really nice wine; taste of citrus, mango and apricot in a mix of tiny acid bombs running around in the mouth. A fantastic bottle of wine (top fill - cork soaked through), just loved this elegant and fine wine. Long aftertaste.

Tasted blind. Dark golden. Tropical nose with pineapple, very pure and fresh. Also very fresh and elegant on the palate. Very youhtful.

Deep primrose; slatey, graceful; finesse, with plenty of power, plump, posed. Yet to peak, best with another five years.

Dinner @ XXXX : Granny Smith apple, diesel, focused and long. Delicious and precise. Loved it.
