The Tale of Many Auslese and One Scheu : baked apple, apricot, rich botrytis wine - baby eiswein. the middle is ripe but clean, bordering on tropical fruit in the mid - with the peaches and pears toying with mango. this is a seriously delicious bomb :) Thank you, Seth!

Leftovers from last night's bottle. This is light to medium orange. Big and ripe nose full of lift: apricots, some marmalade, quince, nice baking spices, a bit of brulee, a touch of herbs - so clear and deep. The palate is similar - lots of fruit, almost baroque, but not heavy at all. Deep, quiet and still, like a glacial lake. In the House of MLERMONTOV (New York, Rego Park) : What a gorgeous and rich nose, showing dried peaches, apricot and spiced apple with sweet floral spice and toasty butter. Weighty yet perfectly balanced on the palate with intense baked apple and peach, along with mulling spice and butter. Long on the finish with honey-soaked peaches, yet vibrant all the same.

In which Seth lost his fork. (Count's place, NY) : Wow! So much better than the last time I had this... the botrytis now is woven into the fruit, and it's just a seamless combination of fruit, spice, richer honey and marmalade elements, and some savoury smoky notes. Powerful acids beneath, and incredible balance and length. Spectacular wine.

Never could stand that fork ... (Mikhailgrad (Rego Park, Queens)) : AP#20. Light-medium orange. Nose is mature, creamy, botrytis, caramel/brulee, soft peach, apple, touch of cider, herbal. Gentle, rich and deep on the palate with brulee, botrytis, peach. Not burning acid, but really focused - the underlying acid brings a clarity to the wine like getting the knob just right on a microscope. A bigger, richer Auslese here; more dessert wine-like with prominent sweetness and some botrytis showing. There's tremendous richness here; a core of ripe tangerine, apricot and peachy fruit surrounded by developing creamy and smoky elements, and sweeter honeyed and marshmallow-like elements. Even though it's noticeably sweeter than the other two wines, there's still a wonderful lightness and purity to the wine with superb balance.
