In a restaurant. Not decanted, the wine was just left a little in the glass. Initially a little closed, but the wine got better the longer it was open. I would therefore recommend decanting the wine (1 or 2 hours). A really great wine at this price. 91 pts. at the moment.

Al palato é di medio corpo, caldo avvolgente, secco, acido ++, sapido, i tannini sono ancora vivi, mostra una freschezza fuori dal comune. From a half bottle. Heavy cigar tobacco, black fruits (ok, a hint of strawberry) on the nose. A medium weight body, can’t hardly coax any fruit even after more than two hours of air - and a very dry cigar tobacco finish. In a dark, closed phase right now.

This was such a nice pairing with the 01 Mayacamas. Much more mature and classic austere BDX - lots of secondary and some tertiary notes with nutty and leafy tobacco notes. Just gentle hints of fruit. Very pretty and refined with tons of structure still. Didn’t get a full note. Thank you Victor!!! 16/20.

Initially tight on open, decanted 1 hour then drank over 2 hours with dinner. Nice structure to it, with composed tannin and acidity complementing the dark fruit, blackberry, earth, tobacco, light cocoa. Liked the texture on the palate and rather elegant richness. Enjoyable, has room to grow, but great now with a bit of air.

Chateau Poujeaux 2006: Still very dark in color, a little musty on the palate at first, needs at least an hour for the aromas to really develop. Smells of dark berries, especially blackcurrant, some tobacco and cedar on the palate, still has a lot of power, round, long finish. Once again proof of the extraordinarily good work that has been done here. Many Poujeaux vintages are still excellent to drink even after 20 years or more. I'm looking forward to …

A contextual note to remind me of a very interesting wine class I offered to some family members to teach them about Bordeaux. 2019 Poujeaux (93) 2019 d'Armailhac (92+) 2020 Capbern (93+) 2015 Capbern (93) The bouquet of tobacco and coffee grounds give this a complete head start vs the shyer nose on the Rothschild and the less flamboyant bouquet on the younger Capbern. We have lovely smolder, brewing coffee, fresh plummy fruit, and absolute balance. Waters down a bit …

Unfortunately, I had a bottle of this last week that was corked. I opened another this week and boy is it singing! I can't believe how open the 2019 vintage is in general. Pnp. Fresh blackberries...slightly ripe, great acidity, and soft tannins. With time, the fruit fades some and the wine get a little tighter. Then you get hit with underbrush, tilled soil, and minerality...definitely turning more earthy. It's drinking really well, but can also last for 10+ years...no problem. …

Gave it an 8 hour slow ox which was not enough so then fully decanted for two hours before dinner. Did have some fine sediment. Dark ruby in the glass, the nose and palate are classic BDX with an emphasis on the fruit and cassis because it is young. Some hints of cedar/earth and chocolate. The tannins were softer and rounder than I expected. Nicely balanced with a medium body and acidity. This is the first of three bottles and …

Bought 6 bottles in the owc at 25€ each and opened the first one this week. 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. 12 months maturation in oak barrels (33% new). 3h decant. Excellent Poujeaux vintage; I agree with Neil Martins (93-95p) black cherries, Sucklings (92-94p) lavender, Jane Ansons (92p) grippy tannins, and Falstaffs (93p) tobacco notes. Early drinking window. Looking forward to try the remaining bottles in the next years.

The smart Bordeaux drinkers should buy Poujeaux from 2019. This is Bordeaux through and through. Opened this casually at a walk around party and everyone wanted to know what this was! Old school vibes with deep substance in volume. Really satisfying and Bordeaux. Drink or HOLD_for rebalance into new direction.

Monday night Bordeaux (Hawksmoor Guildhall) : Something of an underdog on paper, this sharp, characterful wine really shone and I enjoyed it very much. Attractively sweet on the nose, and lots going on in the mouth: green and truffley, some cherry fruit and a juicy finish, its fruit and its spiky, tertiary qualities beautifully integrated. Kept going back for more!

Monday Night Bordeaux (Hawksmoor, Guildhall) : Proof that even modest Bordeaux can age with the best of them and end up very attractive for it. This was really good, easily keeping pace with the big boys. Sweet fruit, fully resolved tannins, quite charming and an excellent wine with which to finish the reds. If you see some, snap it up, this punched well above its weight.

"Into Neck" bis "Base of neck". Guter Naturkorken. Ein wenig bäuerlich, aber gut. Eher kurzer Abgang. Komplex mit mehr Luft. Um 88 bis 89 Punkte. Bis 2025+ Keller Jochen …

Finally got to try this overachiever. Very attractive bouquet on pop and pour, vibrant fruit with blackcurrants and ripe plums on the palate. Both palate and nose seemed to lose steam with air though as the wine became green and a little stale. Slightly weak midpalate without much focus, but nevertheless enjoyable for an unheralded producer and vintage at 25 years of age.

Decanted 30 minutes but was better with a full hour in the decanter. A solid Bordeaux for the price and a good food wine, this shows dark fruit and classic Bordeaux secondaries that pair well with food. This will never wow anyone but will drink well with food now and over the next 5-10 years. B+/A-

A favourite with the Bordeaux group.. but my first ever bottle of Poujeaux 1997. I hope all the bottles are like this one, it was so fresh. The nose was of blackcurrant and something else but I can’t quite describe it.. but quite exotic and enticing. The palate was dark fruits, leather and tobacco all very well balanced and structured with an energetic line of acid almost fighting to be the lead vocalist rather than part of the backing singers. …
