Didn’t take great notes. Very different than the 2018 Gran Selezione. Light in color though starting to brown. Still brilliant/energetic fresh fruit forward. Tannins have mellowed. Slight leather and earth tones coming through.

Wow! Worth the wait Expansive fully realized palate Raisins, berries, bramble, hint of marmalade, faint tar So rich, so delicious Rough yet velvety tannins Long long finish leaves me wanting another sip.... This is why we put wine in our cellars 🍷 Note: no decant

Consistent with previous notes 3-4 years ago. Improved and more accessible, but still brings a hard frame and tannic wall on the finish. Classic rustic table wine and pairs well with greasy pizza. Drink 2020-2024. Technical score: 89. Enjoyment score: 89.

Fairly standard Chianti Classico. Nose has nice aromas of red fruits and leather/spice. Nice tart cherry fruit and some earthy/leather notes. Not particularly complex nor did the fruit or texture hit the next level, but still quite good nonetheless. Mature, drink now through 2019.

Nose shows mint/menthol, somewhat reserved, dusty herbs Fruit more recessive than the tannins, acidic berry flavors, faint bitter chocolate. Some leather/ earth notes. Dusty tannins prominent. Decanted 2 hours, would be interested in a longer decant.

Opened and decanted 30-min ahead of pizza and salad. Light, cloudy crimson with a ruby hue. The nose is muted but brings dried cherries, raspberries, strawberry cream baking spices, and musty leather. The palate is medium, compact, closed, and jagged, bringing juciy ripe cherries, blackberries, dried tobacco, wild herbs, mushrooms, and hints of lavener into the tannic finish. This is still shut down but did reveal some fruit after two hours in the decanter. Went with pizza fine. Drink after …

This 2009 has been released for a couple of years and this bottle showed a bit of maturity. The nose started out a little stinky, it took some swirling to mostly dissipate those aromas. The color was moderately dark at best. After the swirling, the nose had a wet black dirt, barnyard influence to some lightly candied cherry fruit with a bit of fresh torn orange peel. At first not especially fruity but some air releases a mildly candied red …

Decanted and drank over four hours. Still very closed and monolithic. Dark crimson color. Muted nose of dried herbs and Manhattan cherries. Got some hints of tart cherries, tobacco, and even black olives on the palate, but was overall very shy. Perhaps an off bottle, or bad vintage, or a dumb phase, or all of the above. All of this said, I still enjoyed this for it's structure, purity, and rustic character. Went great with lasagna. Drink 2017-2024.

Barrel Select Portfolio Tasting (Toronto, ON) : This pours fairly dark, indicating a slightly less than traditional expression. nose is of herbs, dark cherry, blackberry, black raspberry, some dusty soil notes, some light mixed spice and a slight hint of rosemary. The palate has good acid/tannin tension, but is missing the red fruited sourness I crave in Chianti. Good, solid wine, but not my preferred style from the region.
