In a large, open surface space decanter 90 mins prior to drinking, drunk over the next hour. Garnet with a brown tinge to it, now 9 years old. Tertiary notes evident, leather, rustic and a little game perhaps. Savoury yet sweet edged, ripe blackberry, mocha and a touch of spice. Medium+ finish. Started oxidising fast towards the end of the last glass, shelf life coming to an end. Drink up.

This is a really nice wine. Decanted (removing some light sediment) then started to drink about 3 hours later. I can't do better than to copy Forceberry's evocative description from 2017: "Deep, moderately translucent dark cherry color with a hint of developed brownish hue. Complex, rather sweet and somewhat developed nose with rich aromas of ripe, plummy dark fruits, brambly blackberries, some slightly wizened forest berries, a little bit of sweet oak spice and a hint of developed, leathery character. …

Highly perfumed on the nose but somehow out of balance on the palate.

Gorgeous wine from 100+ old vines. Medium bodied, smooth tannins and quite long finnish. It was worth to cellar this few years.

Wine made from the oldest parcel of Mourvèdre vines of Hewitson (planted in 1853), most likely also the oldest Mourvèdre block in Australia and perhaps in the whole world. Macerated with the skins for 3 weeks. Aged for 18 months in 100% new French oak barrels. Deep, moderately translucent dark cherry color with a hint of developed brownish hue. Complex, rather sweet and somewhat developed nose with rich aromas of ripe, plummy dark fruits, brambly blackberries, some slightly wizened forest …

Macerated with the skins for 3 weeks. Aged for 18 months in 100% new French oak barrels. Deep yet moderately translucent cherry red color. Ripe, sweet-toned and somewhat oaky nose with brooding aromas of cherry marmalade, herbal minty tones, some dark-toned sunny fruits, a little bit of sweet, succulent red plums, …

red, touch of purple, pale rim Rich dark nose, liquorice, spice, earthy with some leather Surprisingly light body, actually rather pretty and delicate in comparison to the nose, poised with floral notes and then some meat Graceful, complex and long Owner Dean Hewitson told me that the family that owned this vineyard had at one point irrigated this vineyard, planted in 1853, heavily in order to make less concentrated grapes for sparkling wine. Was originally planted to make 'port'

Moderately oaky. Dark and spicy, with good varietal character, although far less tannic than the French or Spanish ones. Quite polished and even on the palate with a nice dense core.

Decanted 8 hours. Shined with time/air, especially after fifth hour. Nice nose: Roasted cherries, maybe jubilee, with rubber bands and the chalky powder from bubble gum. Evolved into olive oil and pesto, and meaty nuts, like chestnuts perhaps. Worth the QPR. Paired well with grilled chicken, sweet potato, and green beans.

Dark, slightly translucent ruby color. Sweet and quite ripe nose betraying the warm origins of the wine. Aromas of sunny dark fruits, strawberries, earthy spices, some meaty notes, a little sweet oak veering into the spicy Cognac territory, hints of plum jam and a touch of leather. Full-bodied, juicy and intense on the palate with rich and opulent flavors of sweet cherries, plum liqueur, roasted spices, some Cognac oak and a hint of ripe strawberry. Moderately firm tannins and good, …

I opened this at our 2/7/15 Australian Rhone tasting. It had a rich, ripe and dense bouquet of blackberry, black raspberry, black cherry, earth and spice aromas. The palate was rich, earthy and spicy with flavors that followed the nose. Our group’s average score was 93.0 points.

smagt til Erik Sørensen åbent hus arrangement. Herlig vin der minder lidt om Barolo i duften. Har nok bedst af at vente et år eller to med at blive drukket, grundet et lille tannin-bid der stadig driller en lille smule.
