Covolo's 2002 Napa Cab tasting (Casa Covolo) : DArk plum, borderline raisin-ated but in a pleasing way. Well integrated on the palate. Palate and nose are consistent. Really beagn to fad as the night wore on. Finished 7 of 8 in tasting of 2002 napa cabs.

Stored at 55 degrees. Drank this some months ago a steak dinner. Dark cassis/black cherry-berry. Quite nice.

What BADFISH said so well! Way better than I expected - at 18 years old, still a magnificent example of a classic, restrained, rewarding Napa Cabernet. I only wish I could buy the the current vintage(s) for sub-$20 prices.

Deep garnet core with great density to the rim and just ever so slight bricking. The nose is gorgeous with complex rich aromas of black currant, cigar box, pencil shavings, forest floor, and blackberry pie. The palate is similarly engaging with ripe dark fruit, sweet tannins that are remarkably firm, fresh supporting acidity, and great tertiary character. I purchased this wine for around $18 a bottle and the value is amazing for how much it delivers approaching twenty years of …

Honeysuckle, honey, jam, stone fruit, apricot, peach, baked apple, dried apricot, friend banana, overall - amazing!

Drinking pretty nice. Probably could go another few years to let the tannins mellow; the fruit is there to last.

Man this is still so rich and structured, surprising for a sub $20 Napa Cab of this stature and age. Loaded with blackberry, current leaf, cedar, sweet tannins, and adequate acidity. Still have a couple bottles so I'm thinking at least five years until the next one.

Questionable storage -- may have been heat-exposed. Allowed to breathe in glass 4 hours before tasting, with sampling every hour. Clear deep garnet color. Initially this wine had a pungent, unpleasant bouquet of shoe polish and stewed vegetables and fruit. But after four hours of vigorous aeration (placing the glass of wine next to a window fan) most of the unpleasant volatile aromas dissipated, leaving a tolerable residual bouquet of faded creme de cassis, licorice, and forest floor, with no …

From Magnum. Had this with our Thanksgiving rib roast and it showed surprisingly well. Still looks quite youthful and drinks very nicely in this format. Very pretty and expressive on the nose. Powerful aromas of leather, spice, earth and crushed dark fruits fill the glass. Medium-to-full-bodied. Plenty of delicious cherry, plum and raspberry fruit remains. Quite elegant in style and weight, yet displays very good depth and intensity on the mid-palate. Smooth and polished on the finish, where silky tannins …

This was enjoyable upon first pour but it was better after being opened a few hours. The fruit is fading but there is still some berry flavors to go along with the leather and earth aromas and flavors. Drink soon.

From magnum. Opened up after sitting in the decanter for a couple of hours. Dark red color. Palate of black fruit with leather on the nose. Great with steaks.

Decanted upon arrival...medium red...lively nose of dark red cherries, some earth...a finish of pure silk with no tannins whatsoever...can't believe this is 12 years old.

Double decanted a couple of hours before serving. Great color without much change. Very little sediment. Good nose of leather, but some VA as well. Probably drunk too warm, as it was a sunny day. The fruit is there but the temperature muted it. Definitely plenty of stuffing left in the wine, but it needs better conditions.

Medium ruby color; nose is overripe red fruits, unbalanced; palate has medium tannins, shows alcohol, poor overall.

- Brick color with a short finish - Wine is long gone, tasted like grape juice. Would make a good sangria.

From 375. Right in my wheelhouse, very Bordeaux like. Has shed all of its baby fat in this format. Very subdued dark fruit, moss, olive, pencil lead and smooth as silk. Mondavi cabs with at least 10 years are the bomb for this taster. Haunting nose and the palate is well integrated although you can tell it is holding back just a bit.

From a 375. Very nice. Still very nice fruit, body, and balance. One of the better deals from the PLCB over the years, sad that I had not bought more of these.

Holding nicely and giving pleasure. This has a nice nose of black fruit components w/a hint of toffee/tar segueing into mid palate of the same. In contrast to an '06 Cougar Crest Cabernet Estate. Equally satisfiying but different w/the Washington wine offering up a crunchier red raspberry profile. They're both good and satisfying.

Deep ruby red, no bricking yet. Cassis, blackberries, mint, chocolate, earthiness, alcohol and baking spices on the nose. Full bodies, with black fruit, spice and lots of alcohol on the palate. Well integrated tannins with a long spice and alcoholic finish.

Dark garnet color in the glass without much brick-red color on the edge as you would expect from a 10 year old wine. Pencil shavings and cedar dominated the nose while dark fruit was prominent on the palate. The wine initially seemed to be a bit "awkward" when opened - but then became more harmonious after some time in the decanter. Robert Parker gave this a drinking window to 2016 - and I would tend to agree that this wine …

From magnum, in a nice spot right now. No formal notes but recall smooth red fruits with nice cedar and clove notes. Very enjoyable, if simple wine.

This was one of 3 left from a case bought years ago. Wow, this has aged beautifully with little in the way of bricking and it tasted great with the NY strip. Everything is in balance with enough rich fruit (mostly cassis) to please the thirsty palate. I don't know how the hell they do it with almost every vintage.
