This pours medium ruby with touches of purple. The nose is lifted, classic, and complex showing brambly blackberry, black raspberry, cassis, celery leaf, green tobacco leaf, gravel dust, and leather. The palate enters on the blackberry and cassis, almost a bit soupy on the ripeness. The tannin is medium and a little gravelly, with medium acid. The finish is on blackberry and celery leaf. This pours ruby at the core with a light and purple tinged rim. The Nose is quite appealing with lovely balance on fruit and non-fruit aromas wafting dark cherry, burlap, bay leaf, pomegranate, new leather, graphite, and a touch of purple licorice. Notably it's only moderately intense on the nose, yet the complexity is high. The palate is very light, some might call it thin, yet for me it's elegant. 2017 Château de Chaintres Saumur-Champigny Vieilles Vignes was perfumed, layered and well-structured. The Loire Breton was clear and medium ruby in colour with traces of fine sediments. Despite its young age, wine crystals were observed on the cork, indicative of its high acidity level and absence of cold stabilisation.
