A real surprise. Forward nose full of vosne spice and almost candied red fruit on the palate. Youthful and powerful

Lafon and Clos Vougeot Dinner with Pierre Lafon (Asador Bastian - Chicago IL) : Well spiced red cherry and berry with some meat, faint earth. Very good weight and balance. The Vosne style of Clos Vougeot, so well done.

Lafon and Vougeot with Pierre (Asador Bastian) : Flashy, generous nose shows a ton of Vosne character with loads of Vosne spice. The palate is concentrated with satiny tannins. A total pleasure-bomb and more Vosne than Vougeot, but I guess that's not really a problem!

2nd of 6, half decanted 45 minutes, perfect cork and level, essentially as noted in Oct 23 though rounder, better layered and more precise, red fruit initially turning darker in last glass, remarkably youthful and with fine energy to fruit, lovely compote element, upside, 15+ years. At least F+ (18).

Monday Dinner with Meursault, Clos Vougeot, and Barolo (Andros Taverna - Chicago IL) : Plenty of red cherry with savory spice, roasted meat, and black pepper, all nicely unfolding and well layered. The 2nd bottle opened from a case bought around release, this was much better than the first, opened in 2021.

Like many 99s, this is incredibly youthful and powerful. Fruit is fresh, ripe and concentrated. Structure is reasonably well integrated creating a seamless mouthfeel. Plenty of room to go with some upside as this develops some nuance.

1st of 6, opened 30 minutes then splash decanted, perfect cork and level - dark, mat, translucent ruby, brown tinge to rim; cherry, hint of bramble, fruit more black than red, touch of spice, complex, lively and attractive; med/full, fine length, persistence and concentration with fine drive to fruit, attractive silky compote element, GC weight and underlying power, upside, 15+ years. F+ for now (18)....... and not quite as attractive as the 03 currently.

Stood up but still significant 2oz sediment, decanted off. Clear, light ruby, age-appropriate bricking; aromatic, red cherry, forest floor, strawberry, bramble; palate is light bodied but with a lovely sappiness, red fruited, medium alcohol, medium-plus acidity; finish is medium length. Very nice and fully mature red burgundy, drink now and enjoy the aromatics. 93-

Stood up for weeks, decanted off 2oz sediment and tasted immediately. Light ruby, age appropriate bricking; aromatic, red fruited, lacy florals, forest floor, wet rain, some spice; palate is medium-minus body, silky and fully integrated tannin, mature but still present red fruit, strawberry, a very small amount of fully integrated oak with some slight toast and vanilla; finish is medium length. This is at an absolutely beautiful place, showing a bit of the concentration of Clos Vougeot but so silky …

Clos Vougeot (Grands-Echezeaux / Southwest-side) Tasting (Hughes House - Chicago IL) : In 96/99/02 vertical. Somewhat stewed, which was odd since I have owned this full case since shortly after release.

Good Wine with a Boring Super Bowl (Chez Kailin - Northbrook IL) : Social walk-around tasting, brief note. Ripe red and black cherry, nicely mature, very old school elegance. Good weight and length. Very good now, stayed at the same level for several hours, and likely to drink well for another decade+.

Christopher Prain's Mature Burgundy Dinner @ Ten Bells (Upstairs @ The Ten Bells) : Rich. Dark fruits. A bit of toasted oak. Lovely texture. Very long. Broad and complete. Great texture. Dark but pretty. Needs more time.

Thanks to MauriceE's note -- and CT -- we didn't decant and it was right where I like it: a worthy amt of fruit left but fairly light bodied and in the later stages of maturity. 30" finish w some appealing complexity, not much of the mushroom palate I love about Burg though.

This has a fine nose, but this evolves very, very quickly in the glass. Be sure to pop and poor! Do not decant at any case, and drink as soon as possible. You will have a short but satisfying drink.

Beautifully open, fully mature nose, forest floor, nuts, cherries, minerals, takes to oxygen like a duck to water; incredible vitality, power and finesse, initially a bit light in the middle but fills out with creamy cherries; excellent length.
