In a good place, starting to show some tertiary development but plenty of fruit and enough acid and structure to suggest it will make old bones.

In fase leggermente calante, andava bevuto un paio di anni fa probabilmente, tappo perfetto, naso che concede poco, poi si apre, alcol un po’ slegato ed accenno di terziarizzazione. Se l’avete in cantina stappatela.

Clearly nobody else is drinking this wine but I opened it up tonight after buying a random bottle on WineBid a few years ago. Is it amazing? No. But still very much alive with forest floor, mushroom, and dusty cherry.

generally a big fan of this producer but i was disappointed by this one. cork perfect, color light garnet. this had a chemical funk on the nose and the palate that i could not get past. tried decanting (twice) and it would not let go. CC could get past it and it went bye-bye, but no me.

Opened for 3 hours Black cherry, raisin, orange, a little chocolate, mineral, limestone, mushrooms, all nose. Elegant. Nice flavors. Cherry, limestone, a bit medicinal. Good wine for pairing. Weight light, acid medium plus. Nose much better than flavors.

A lot of the Raphet wines I have had, on opening they have this overwhelming leafy/medicinal cellar-funk, not a cork issue but just this weird chemical scent... It always blows off with time and has with this wine also. This is a wine of two halves, and so it's difficult to assess as whole. The aromas, once open, are gorgeous and classically Burgundian; very floral with rose petal and potpourri esters, but with distinct iodine, mushroom and almost peaty aromas …

Visit to Gérard Raphet in June 2014 : Good red colour. Lighter around the rim. A core of red berries on the nose, showing some secondary underbrush and mushroom notes. On palate, good fruit weight. Flavours in the red berry spectrum, particularly raspberries and red cherries. The acidity is yet to settle. The good tannins also need time to more fully integrate. - Garnet color with medium forming legs. It's balanced with a medium/full body. Silky texture with a medium finish - I think this is magnificent. Gorgeous dusty earthy aromas. Bloody, meaty palate with fine tannins and a medium to long finish. I immensely enjoyed his wine with my medium rare rib eye and polenta and jus. Not as great as the 2011, but nevertheless outstanding.

Brought to dinner at Chez Spencer in SF. Pretty nose of red cherries and dried flowers with just a touch of brett. At this really low level the brett actually added interest for me, although Ashley said it bothered her a bit. On the palate this is more dark fruited, black cherry and raspberry, with a nice medium weight and sappiness. Good acidity to balance and a bit of damp earth. This is excellent and remains open for business.

Decanted two hours. Elegant and restrained nose. Pine and red fruit. It's rather light on the palate. There is a nice sappy fruit note, but it doesn't leave a big impression on the palate. Turns rather tart and tightens its grip on the back end. It's a good wine, perhaps lack some of what I look for in grand cru, but its pretty just the same. very aromatic nose of raspberries, sois bois, strawberries, orange peel & brown sugar. light yet firm on the palate. wonderful mineral finish. thought this would be too young/closed, but this was ready to go. not a mind blowing grand cru but an excellent bottle on clearance.

Purple, violet but translucent. Concentrated nose with dark fruits and new oak. A noticeable stinky character on entry and chalky tannins with a fresh somewhat bitter finish. Not sure if this is going anywhere further but it definitely had character and it was intriguing. Perhaps time will meld the elements but I did not feel that it had the complexity to deliver greater things and the stinkiness was a bit off putting.

Aromatically - briary red raspberry jam with brown sugar. Aromatically very expressive. This wine is showing well young. On the palate it has a sweet load of fruit upfront with medium density and a beautiful stoney mineral finish on fine grain tannin. should age really well.
