About 30 minutes after opening and decanting this was sooo sweet on the nose, with obvious notes of straw and very much showing the roussanne in the blend. Hot on the palate, which wasn't surprising considering it's 14.9% alcohol. About 2 hours after decanting this was just really beautiful, and toasty notes came out 2½ hours after decanting.

Popped and poured. Nose was beautiful with tons of sugar cane, a little flint, and a hint of savory notes. Smooth on the palate. A little more than 3 hours after opening, this wine was just fucking beautiful.

Amber color. Ripe fruit on the nose. Drank this over an hour and it got better and better with air. Loads of orange peel, honey, yellow flowers. This is a distinct and specific wine. My first experience - have one more bottle. Its drinking in its peak right now.

Kleur: Medium goudgeel Aroma / bouquet: Bedwelmend en tertiair bouquet, complex en zwaar. Overrijpe abrikoos, lychee, boenwas, kaarsvet, rozen. Vanille en zoethout. Opvallend rokerig. 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 14 + Smaak / Afdronk: 19 + Algemeen / …

Mildly oxidative, honeyed, vegative nose. Probably past it's peak but still offers enjoyment. Nice acid and fruit. Pretty typical SQN but time to drink up.

Second bottle with consistent notes. This one consumed over three days. Just a hint of petrol on the nose. Oily mouthfeel, but still bracing acidity. Nicely balanced. I don't know enough about this wine to judge longevity, but seems to be coming into its own with many years ahead.

Wederom een topwijn van SQN. Mooi donkergeel. Vol hangend. Vetheid al in het glas. Geur van mooi gerijpt wit fruit, honing, noten, caramel, was. Geconcentreerde aanzet. Vol, sappig, dik, vet. Vol alcohol, maar je merkt en proeft het niet. Wat een smaaksensatie. Mooi op dronk, maar kan nog paar jaar mee. Feestje.

Not very clear dark yellow. Concentrated bouquet with yellow fruits and honey. On the palate ripe fruits, honey and some caramel, concentrated and broad and also quite mature. Rich and complex wine. Now definitely at (the end of?) its peak. Don't wait too long!

SQN Tarantella 2001 Kleur: Wat troebel, strogeel Aroma / bouquet: Vol, zwaar en zwoel. Tertiair met rijp steenfruit, vooral abrikoos, lychee, overrijp tropisch fruit. Verder boenwas, kaarsvet, vuursteen, gerookte paling. 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma …

An evening with Sine Qua Non (Restaurant Bottles, Sas van Gent) : Very concentrated and intoxicating nose of warm applepie and heavy floral notes (lilies, hyacinth, lilac, honeysuckle) which I did not find very appealing. On the palate this is much more evolved than the Albino, showing overripe peaches, passionfruit and white chocolate. So, less freshness, but rather oily and unctuous and very impressive, loud and clearly present. Could this be in decline? 17,5/20

non blind. a real surprise. i guess i didnt expect much from this 1999 white. but it is manfred. too cold at the start. not much giving at that point. after a half hour in the glass, this really opened up. eyes got big and jaws kind of dropped. wonderful, deep integrated floral nose of honeysuckle along with lemons and tropical fruits. palate was much better than expected. nice and luscious from the start to the back palate. fruit, floral …

Great Grapes for a Great Cause SQN Tasting -- 3rd Annual; 5/7/2010-5/8/2010 (Mandarin Oriental, Washington DC) : Awesome. My favorite of the 5 whites. Tropical fruit and floral notes with a lingering finish. Well balanced in every dimension and an impressive depth on the midpalate despite the lightness the floral quality brings. Excellent!

Who says CA whites don't age? Who said SQN doesn't age? Who says SQN whites don't age? Liars! Or just ignorant. A ten year old SQN white. Call it a Rhone blend if you want, but there's Chardonnay in them thar hills to go with the Roussane and Vignier. Very nice with some nuttiness, acidity, a bit of citrus in the acidity, and white fruit. There's a feeling of depth when you drink the wine and mellow smoothness despite the acidity. …

SQN Dinner: Autrement Dit, Tarantella, Incognito, In Flagrante, Strawman : Loved this wine. Bright and lively, with plenty of fruit and balancing acidity. Still very fresh, with lots of power, but doesn't come across as overbearing in any way. Beautiful, long finish - excellent!

blue-chip boredom (Compass) : Much better than the 1998. Creamy textured but bright, fresh, and clean, almost aloe-scented.

Did not warm up to this wine. I tried to like it but there an offputting flavor present, like that of a jalapeno. A pear note and minerals but that wierd flavor kind of ruins the wine for me.

Squires Board OL with a Grand Assortment (Twist Bistro, Campbell, California) : Medium apricot yellow color; big, nutty, sherried, smoked fish, savory nose; older, concentrated, sweet lemon and almond palate; medium-plus finish (poured blind; I thought it was an older California white Rhone)

My first SQN. I was not sure what grape this was at first. It was mostly chard. It was slightly cloudy. It was interesting, but not good. :(
