Got this when Rudy emptied his cave as he sold his winery. Did not expect much at all at this point but found the wine to be vibrant and as flavorful as some of his wines from the 20-teens. Would have never guessed it was 25 years old!

Opened for 4 hours before dinner. The cork broke upon extraction. The nose was dark fruit. The palate was blueberry, blackberry and earth tones. The finish was moderate. Drinking nicely at 20 years old.

Best Von Strasser I have had to date. Outstandingly smooth. Still lots of cherry and raspberry , a little dusty, some wet wood, some cherry cola, with lots of older bordeaux notes as well. Well integrated and amazing. Wish I had more. We did not decant this.

Drank this over the course of sixdays (vacuvin) and it was still going strong on day 6, which was a bit surprising. This is a really good Napa red, and it still has a number of years ahead of it. Dark ruby color, very upfront nose of dark, dried fruit, some leather and forest floor. Tannins are mellowing, but this is by no means flabby. Medium to full bodied, 45 second finish.

Deep red/purple color, no bricking around the edges. Lot's of cherry fruit, dusty oak, wood, earthiness, rutherford like quality. very nicely aged, quite impressive. threw some sediment.

Elegant and perfectly balanced Bordeaux blend that has aged beautifully. Cool mountain fruit picked at optimum ripeness so it's still fresh and fares well at the table. Delicious Napa cab made in a balanced style without the overripe and tired flavors of much of its competition. This is pure and delicious and never tires on the palate.

Black color. This is really a lovely mountain cab that is drinking well. It is balanced with cool black fruit and a good freshness that sets it apart from a lot of other "chocolate" Napa cabs from the same era.

Wow. What a treat. Great dried fruit aroma, nice fruit flavor remaining, with a hint of oak. Smooth and round, nice finish, medium to heavy body. Struck me as a nicely balanced wine. I think I drank at the right time.

Light, subtle cherry notes. Fades quickly on the palate.

Nothing special about this. Nice bouquet to it, deep ruby color, but didn't leave me wanting another sip.

Wine Country August 2001: 54% Merlot with Cabernet and Cabernet Franc. Vanilla, chocolate, sweet, chalky tannins with a touch of pencil lead. Delicious stuff.
