VDR Very Dark Red

Fairly generic, supermarket, red blend (Petit Verdot and Petit Sirah). Not offensive, but not particularly enjoyable either. Huge, heavily extracted, lacking freshness. Maybe would have been more enjoyable if accompanied by a hunk of red meat.

We had the rest of the Coravined bottle with our Italian food and Fra Diavolo sauce. Still a goid pairing.

Coravin pours. Red and dark fruit, berry, cherry, chocolate, spice and some fine tannins. A good pairing with our spicy, Fra Diavolo sauce. 67% Petite Verdot and 33% Petite Syrah.

“Very Dark Red” 67% Petite Verdot 33% Petite Sirah Nose has a little jammy dark berry fruit & a subtle eucalyptus aroma. Very dark but also very smooth. Bitter chocolate, maraschino cherry & a little berry jam.

And that is very dark red. Works it out at $30 or so.

Saturated, very dark, black tinged red violet color; berry preserves, milk chocolate, fudge nose; juicy, berry puree, ripe black fruit, dark chocolate palate with sweet tannins and lowish acidity; approachable now; medium-plus finish (63% Petit Verdot, 37% Petite Sirah; 14% alcohol; natural cork)
