This is a pretty crazy wine. It's like smoked bologna and leather and coffee all in one. WAAAAY better with food than on it's own. In fact, I've never had anything that swings so far between good with food and bad on its own.

First pilotage for us. So much coffee on the nose. Maybe a crossover to the tar. Maybe, MAYBE, some plum or almost dried plum on the way back. Very strange.

Bouquet strong coffee, tobacco and bonfire, some leather and blackberries. Palate again strong coffee and bonfire, some blackberries, well balanced, medium plus finish, very good. No decanting done. Second day better. Good QPR.

South African Tasting (Embassy of South Africa - Washington, DC) : Smells like blackberries and violets, lots of pepper, dark roasted coffee. Fresh but ripe, really pleasant, quite balanced, easy to drink. Plummy, black cherries, laced with cocoa and leather. Excellent for the price.
