E. Molino, Langhe, Nebbiolo

I’m as perplexed by this wine as I was four years ago - but for different reasons. It manages to be to be savory, almost meaty in flavor, yet the fruit seems candied. It’s provocative, even if I’m not sure I like it.

14% alcohol. Decanted for 3,5 hours. Extremely pale, limpid and very translucent reddish-orange color with a colorless rim. Dry, youthful and somewhat floral nose with aromas of garrigue, dried flowers, some ripe raspberry, a little bit of licorice, light sweet notes of wild strawberries, a hint of ripe red plum and a smoky touch of tar. The wine is ripe, silky and medium-to-moderately full-bodied on the palate with juicy yet relatively light flavors of raspberry marmalade, some strawberry, light cherry …

Quite light in color and body. Very Nebbiolo on the nose. I liked this wine very much but am struggling to describe why. It seems uncommonly interesting for its class. It's austere but there is something really engaging about it. A fine value to boot.
