On pour at the Royal Oak. A touch blunted but otherwise pretty decent. I do find some of the wines from this house can show a tangy wild streak which I’m not always comfortable with. Whole bunch impact? Regardless a lively palate.

The fruit for this wine comes from 3 vineyards in Heathcote. Kennedys, Humis and Carl Brown’s that are all based on very old Cambrian soils planted almost 25 years ago. Medium-dark red. Lifted aromatics (whole bunch?) Already very approachable. Sweet, aromatic, forward flavours. Made to drink young. Lacks some stuffing. Shortish. Better Heathcote quaffers than this. Day 2 shows better. A gentle, aromatic, balanced quaffer. The whole bunch characters are more evident. It needs a few months to a year …
