Pride Mountain, Merlot, California

Decanted an hour, a little VA that blew off. Shy nose at first that opened up with fruit and some pencil lead. Great dark color with no bricking. Pure fruit on the palate with a medium finish. A surprise pleasure to drink, great match with grilled marinated steak tips.

Pleased and impressed. Cork was still solid. Opened , fought off tasting it, let sit in the bottle and hour & then decanted half hour. Had it with rack of lamb + asparagus. For us still really delicious, a little mellow on the tannins, but the fruit is still shining with smooth really enjoyable berry flavors. Thankful. Cheers everyone

A friend brought over a bottle that was purchased directly from the winery nine months ago. Claret in color with bricking at the edges, but still a decent grip on the stems. Muted nose. Wine lacked fruit right from the bottle, but after 20 mins Bordeaux flavors and fruit began opening up. New world, for sure. Clearly high in alcohol from the get-go and 16 years of age didn’t really hide that. Drank extremely hot, not much on the nose besides liquor, dark chocolate, and dark berries. Tannins fairly resolved. But again, hot.

Great Merlot. Decanted 1 hour. Smelled wonderful, med-full bodied, flavors were balanced and ended with a dry almost rustic finish. Really enjoyed. Drinking great right now.

PnD. 5.0 L decanted and poured at a wine tasting over several hours.Bricking was present. With this volume the wine was still in the peak range.

From magnum, decanted 30 min. My previous notes for '04 Pride Merlot (from 750 ml) apply here, excepting a surprising perception of lesser sweetness n oaky vanilla. May be drinking a tad bit too cold @57°F cellar temp tonite, but no time to linger, ponder, or sleuth and over will gas 1/3 remainder and revisit.

Dark, dense purple-black color with no bricking. Blackberry and red plum with a hint of warm spice. No fig or raisin notes whatsoever, a testament to excellent storage. Perfect balance of fruit and backbone, softened nicely over 90 min. Enjoy now, or over the next 3-5 yrs.

Old, undrinkable. Cork came out in 2 pieces/dry, even though I've stored it properly on its side in the chiller since purchase at the winery 5 years ago. How did they store it before then?...kept waiting for the rotten smell to lift and the taste to improve, but alas, this wine has seen better days.

Opened by Allred. A smooth wine with integrated tannins. Notes of ripe berries and plums. 93 points.

PNP. Rusty ruby color with yellowing rim. Raisin warm tar, rhubarb, tawny, and carmelized nose. Warm, smooth, fruit forward palate. Soft, but firm tannins on medium short finish. This was an overall "warm" inviting wine.

Just starting to turn. A little rusty color, not a lot of nose. Some fruit but not bold. Drinkable, but not memorable. Probably past it's peak. Looking forward to trying the '07 I have to compare.

Chocoate and floral qualities with dark fruit overtones. Medium bodied. Soft tannin. Flavors of dark fruit, chocolate and spice. Drinking well, may be slowly declining at this point.

Drank as part of a vertical, 02, 03 and 04. Lots of cherry and chocolate with some oak and balanced tannins. Opened the bottle 45 minutes before serving and it evolved beautifully over the next 90 minutes. Not quite as big or complex as the 03 and 04, but still a great mature wine.

From Magnum, the cork cleanly broke in half and was easily extracted. I didn't take any formal notes, but remember that my impression was that it was much less gratuitous than the younger versions that I usually drink. It seemed more like a nicely aged Bordeaux than a California Merlot. Consumed over 3-4 hours, it evolved nicely over the time.

classic pride, maybe the last of the Foley produced Merlots, just wonderful, with huge fruit, nice acid and balanced tannins. Just a wonderful wine.

Substantially better than a bottle of two years ago. On the nose, pure, almost bright red fruit (currant and raspberry), with a hint of leather, bell pepper, and oak. Palate offers bing cherry, raspberry, bittersweet chocolate, black pepper and coffee. Long finish with gentle, sweet tannin. Very nice.

Blue core with some brown bricking around the edge and a clear rim. Sweet nose with floral and blueberry notes. Palate had depth with some vanilla, cola, blueberry, currant, and even a little earth tones toward the end. However, the flavors were muddled together and not resolved in a way that they supported the experience with layers of flavors.
