Decanted, consumed over two days. The wine was medium ruby in colour, turning garnet at the edges. It offered red cherry, cucumber, cigar box, tobacco, earth, spices, some smoke and a salty/maritime component on the nose. On the palate the medium-bodied wine showed red cherry, forest berries, cherries in brandy, coffee, tobacco, spices, a touch of vanilla and some smoke, with good, lively acidity, a creamy mouthfeel and superb length of the broad finish. Another beautiful Spätburgunder from Knipser. This wine holds the middle between the 2006 Mergelweg and "im Großen Garten". The same black and red forest fruits and pleasant oak. A little less "massive" as the Mergelweg and a little more full bodied than "im Großen Garten"
