This is quite good. Still rich and mostly youthful. Partially mature so maybe adolescent. It's a cooler, darker Cab. Made me think of Montelena. Not a lot of tannin but plenty of acid. Medium complexity. As I said probably not on the down slope yet. I wonder what Joe Montana's actual influence on this was.

Beautiful well-balanced cab. Drink now, but it is definitely not past its prime.

Mid-weight, acidic with not quite enough tannins to balance, austere fruit.

Consistent with previous notes, perhaps a bit more velvety mouthfeel than more, owing to more integrated tannins. Sorry to see you go Chabot!

Deep red, cassis and integrated oak, great balance, long, solid tannins still, might even improve over the next 2 or 3 years.

This was my first bottle of Montagia at Flemings with steak for dinner. Lovely cabernet nose of cassis, current, and hints of dark fruit on the nose, more of the same on the palate with hints of leather and fully ripe dark cherry fruit. The mouthfeel was rich, elegant, and tasty. Medium long finish. Easy to drink the whole bottle.

A tiny production as far as most Cabs go (200 cases). Currant and cedar box, oak but not monstrous, and a hint of mint/menthol. Absolutely delicious with a grilled dry-aged NY strip steak.

Dark garnet color. This reminds of a throw back effort, where the fruit was pulled before over ripeness was achieved. Bright ripe cherry, currant, black truffle, and slight minerality. Consistent with the old world style the Chabot has a lighter viscosity and light mouth feel than we expected from an 2001 Napa. Fresh lively acid with young tannins that roll on for 35 seconds. Should be good for another five to ten years.

A much better showing than 17 months ago. The nose is more mature than I'd expect at this point, with a nice mix of fruit, cab sweat, and cedar. The palate is balanced in a lighter, more traditional Napa style. Almost what I'd call a feminine version, somewhat akin to the flavors of Drinkward Peschon, at least from memory. Beyond just "pleasant", this is a wine I very much enjoy drinking. Still not a great APR at retail, but for …

Bottom line is I liked it. I purchased a case in 2004 when I was at the Reserve Room at Beringer and have not touched a bottle since then. Wow, a real gem that has at least 2-3 years of cellar life. Paired well with a grilled cumin rubbed fillet and grilled corn.

Popped/poured, no decant. On the nose, buttered popcorn, Tabarome leather, cassis, and a hint of tar. Medium bodied palate, with tannins that come through with just a bit of time in the glass along with hints of pine and forest floor. Not clipped, but yet a bit short on the finish. Could use some more time, 3-5 years in my opinion. Could become an elegant aged Cali cab, but I'm not sure if it's got enough stuffing to be 90pts …

88-90 points. Despite the good 2001 vintage, wasn't blown away by this wine. Some interest and complexity and well-made, but ridiculously priced versus quality.

The plump soft tannins and the lush valley floor fruit make this a very accessible, balanced and elegant wine. The nose opens with succulent ripe black cherry, cassis, cedar and a hint of mint. Dark, round fruit flavors fill the mouth and transition into a structured and long finish with sweet vanilla and black cherry flavors complemented by a cocoa dusting.
