NobleRottersSydney - something impressive (Glass Brasserie, Sydney) : {cork, 14.5%} [DavidL - guest] Aged nose of super-charged Barossa shiraz in the fully Parkerised style. Big aromas of vanilla, coconut and jammy black fruit. Palate is full-bodied, somewhat drying-out – more from alcohol than the low chalky tannins, which are in full retreat. Raisins, cranberry sauce, and a brandy character pervade the palate. Medium length warm finish, but it’s tending towards a baked kind of astringency. Definitely a drink-now prospect.

Everyone guessed right.. mine is a New World. But they were split between USA and Australia. S was closest, a Shiraz. Good job! Perfumed blackcurrant nose initially, and much better balanced after 2 hours breathing. Whilst this may not soften any further, I also believe it's not going to get any better. Enjoy it whilst the fruit is still precise, time to drink up! First ever visit to La Fleur Lambocellar at Publika KL, we had a fun evening with …

Previous bottle’s cork had fallen apart and so had the wine beneath it. This, however! Lovely fruit and spice on the nose with a touch of cedary leather. On the palate, primary, dark cherry and bramble with Christmas cake spice and savoury, leathery notes, some vanillin oak and some pleasantly aged mustiness. A lovely line of acid to freshen the elegantly integrated tannin and extraordinary length. Very lovely indeed. On the evidence of this good bottle, many years ahead, although …

Popped and poured.. immediate blackfruit and light cedar bouquet. Blackberries and plums with polished leather on the palate, so rounded! Med-full body, light pepper and dark chocolate finish. Of the 3 vintage Clarendon Hills, we loved this the most. Refined French oak and what a finish.. 30 seconds long. Proud to share my last aged bottle of Clarendon Hills with my buddies 👏 Two hours later when we tried this from the bottle at the end of our dinner.. it …

Background: After a long-awaited reunion with Restaurant La Rochelle in Omotesando, Tokyo, we had the pleasure of opening a bottle we left in their care since early 2019. This wine is a gem from one of Australia's oldest vineyards (1838) and we could finally enjoy it on our table. Piggot Range is steeped in history and deserves its fame. Deep, dark red showing no signs of aging. Upon the first sniff, it fills the room with its grande, typical semi-mature …

The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like black pepper, black currant (cassis) and bark. The body is full. The wine has coarse texture. The wine finishes medium.

(Standin for Failed 1979 Montrose) Expected more. It was impenetrably black and had the superb concentration of a classic de luxe Oz Shiraz. Mega thick sediment in the btl. With plentiful acids and some tannins to back it all up. Our problem with this is that there's no integration between the iron, plummy, licorice infused Giga fruit on the one side the acidity and the tannins on the other. It's as if they are living separate lives. Maybe a phase. …

Consistently high quality wine from Clarendon Hills. Currently drinking at peak with a few more years left before the decline. Much more sophisticated than the often encountered turbocharged Barossa Shiraz. Fruit, tannins are in perfect balance.

Consistent with earlier tasting notes, this exhibited a rich dark purple color, full bodied, and full smooth polished aromas and flavors of raspberries, blueberry, blueberries and smoked meat with notes of spice and floral elements with hints of oak with nicely integrated silky tannins on the lingering finish. However, it seems with this latest tasting of this label, the fruit seems more ripe or extracted so as to be a bit more raisiny with a subtle tone of graphite or …

This is a great example of the quality that comes from Clarendon Hills and how good McLaren syrah really is. This is a 17 year old wine and is starting to show it's age. The first night its nose was rather muted, but showing lots of tertiary characteristics - some smoked meats, cigar box, and the scent of brand new Crayola crayons. In the glass is also shows its age, with some browning of the edges. The palate was very …

On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, high alcohol (14.5%), supple integrated high tannins, full body. Sushi & BBQ at Jon's office This was at once big, coming right after the whites... Blackberries, with some tar/menthol notes that followed thr’ to the palate. This kinda paled in comparison with the Clonakilla SV (which came later). Not bad with the BBQ meats though. I really wonder if this will improve further with age...?

Second of the four reds for the blind tasting of Non-American Shiraz/Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon Tasting. Deep mix of garnet and ruby red. Biggest nose of the lot with layers of gunpowder, bramble berries, black berries, a touch jammy, baking spices and maybe a little mint. Some aged characteristics of tomato too. Medium tannins (6.5/10) and medium plus to full bodied. Rich palate with some aged cherries, black fruits, vanilla, cinnamon, and solid dark gravel. Almost volcanic rocks. Excellent structure …

Final bottle, on splendid form. The nose displays heady and deep aromas of almost overripe fruit, beef stock and bacon fat, well-integrated new oak, and aromatic green herbs; the palate is still powerful and big but, having lost some weight, also poised and precise, with a remarkable mineral freshness, balance, and firm acidity; complete finish, very good length.

Still excellent (see jan 2016 note) but it's lost a bit more fruit since last year. More spice, smoked meat and leather now. Though the black and blue fruit is still present, I suspect it's on its way out. Time to drink up, which won't be a problem for me since this was my last bottle. 92+

The complete opposite of the Mount Edelstone 1996 which preceded it. Big and rich, sweet fruit, smoke and bacon fat, glossy and polished, fresh and well-balanced, but the oak feels quite resinous on the finish. It may be best not to wait too long.

Decanted for a few hours and ate with dessert. Just a lovely example of an powerfully elegant Aussie Shiraz. Nose of blueberry and smoked meat and a hint of forest floor. Palate is pretty mind blowingly awesome: smooth, balanced with tons of excellent fruit and structure. Opulent comes to mind. But the fruit is not hedonistic like some Aussie fruit bombs. Black and blueberries, cherries, and chewy tannins. long finish with some elevation in flavor profile on the tail end. …

Smells wonderful but like it's going to be the most obnoxiously jammy fake tasting fruit bomb ever. Not at all the case- has great acid and still a good amount of tannin that's so smoothly integrated, complex and savory smokey/bloody meaty flavors, and the fruit is pure tangy dark deliciousness that is big but doesn't get to candyland like a couple of the other Clarendon wines I've had. Great wine.
