Drank very well, a bit earthy after an 04 Pelkan Ranch from Carlisle. Nice fruit, went down well, losing a bit of its upfront fruit but still very good and we drank it quite easily.

Very nice, silky smooth, deep cherry. No alcohol or strong tannic structure. Nows the time to drink up on this one IMHO!

Good strong peppery qualities gives this some interest but the fruit was a bit simple and tart. Good but kind of a two note wine. Hope for more.

Smooth and fruity, but with depth and lovely finish.

No formal note, but was extremely nice. No longer primary but still young, with good depth and complexity. This is just hitting its stride and should remain in it for the next 2 years.

decanted 5 hours before consumption, good balance, tar, smoke, sweet cherries and a bit of burnt bacon. nice mouthfeel, tannins are there but not obtrusive, could probably use another 2 years sideways.

Not the same wine I was gushing over 2 years ago. Dark and meaty up front, but the mid- palate's hollow and retreats abruptly behind chalky tannins. Is this deat or just hibernation? Try again in a year.

OC Offline With John and Kimberly Cabot (Fratello's Laguna Niguel) : I prefer the newer vintages of the Lucia Garys' bottlings, as evidenced say by the 2005, which is a killer bottle of syrah, IMO. The 2004 shows a rich style. meat, blue fruit and soy. I didn't find it to be on par with the 2005, which even with a year's less age beats it by far.

Fruity!! Smooth!! Me likey...but wait was this a Syrah? Or is it a full bodied red wine with wonderful flavor smoothed out tannins and no spice? We drank with a Channukkah turkey and Latkes. It really went down easy and we were caught short because the next bottle was not even opened when this was finished. Like the Cabs from Lucia that I have had the drinkability is so great I can't even notice that is not typical of the …

Nice pepper notes among purple berry flavors. Some tartness on the finish that stands out from the fruit. Doing nicely but I hope for more with this winery. Good but not above the pack.

What the hell happened to this wine? Thin, watery strawberry and cola flavor profile. Secondary fermentation that never blew off. Only alcohol on the finish. If I didn't look at the label again, I would have thought this to be an awful Central Coast Pinot. Undrinkable. I couldn't run to the sink fast enough to pour this down the drain. If this was representative of the wine I had more than a year ago, I was either drunk, stupid or …

Wine seemed a little disjointed. Definitely had toasty blackberry fruit which is characteristic of the Santa Lucia Highlands, slight earthy flavors

PnP. My impression is that this has improved a bit since my previous bottle in '06. Black/blue berries, meat, smoke, mocha, stems and pepper highlight the nose and palate. But the star of the show for me was the bright midpalate that has acidity, flavor, mineral and friendly, gritty tannins that leads into a beautiful finish. This wine is great alone, but was stellar with food. Even my Cali-syrah fruitbomb phobic wife thought this was terrific.

Purple color. Dark fruit, coffee, meat and stem on the nose. Absolutley delicious stuff. Gorgeous black fruit, nice lift midpalate and a long mouth watering finish. I'm preferring this more than the bottle I had last year.

Dark ruby color and a hesitant nose after decanting showing dark fruit that had a sense of tartness to it with an earthy backing. Medium entry and mid palate grip with an edge of framework that seemed to be holding back the fruit somewhat. Substance is not in question...it has it in spades, tasty and pleasing, but still an evolution in process.

Very incomplete note. Popped and poured but no serious time spent with evaluation. Remember more tart citrus on the finish than previous and clearly more open than a year ago. Also less density of fruit but nice berry flavors. One of the bottles emptied on a very hedonistic evening though.

Double decanted for 20 minutes, and consumed over 5 hours. Medium to full-bodied wine that is dark magenta/purple in color. On the nose, reticent dark berry fruit, bacon fat, and floral notes. On the palate, blackberries, citrus, and vanilla oak. This wine has good up-front fruit, but is a bit light on the mid-palate. The finish, however, is good at 20-30 seconds. Served slightly chilled, this wine only shows a touch of heat. Fairly tasty wine, but not quite up …

Nice wine, but nothing special. Nose was tight. Taste was blueberries, blackberries, chocalate and slight pepper. Did not develop much in the glass. I remember enjoying a previous bottle more. Not sure where it is going from here.

Super dark inky color. The nose shows some varietal character and some over-extracted black & blue fruits. The palate has the grapey-soy-dark fruit profile that FMIII speaks of below. I noticed some dark plum, black pepper, and some minerality. I think this showed better when last tasted (September 06?). The tannin level is nice and seemless, and the acid a bit high. A food wine for sure. Will hold my ast bottle for a year. Now onto the Susans..... The …

Tasting note here based on wine being open for 24 hours. My impressions from last night were pepper, soy, dark chocolate and grapey. Tonight, closing out the work week, retasting this wine. Interesting, as I posted a note on this wine back in February when we drank it @ one of our Offlines over dinner. I was a bit under whelmed with it then, so was interested to see if the same impression existed. This wine shows dark, smells of …

Dark inky black/purple in color. Nose is meaty, smokey, little pine tree, black fruit. Day 2 more of the smoke and mint show. On the palate soy, black fruit, dusty dry tannin, not quite as approachable as the Susan's, but components are all there to be an exceptional wine. Rounds out with time. Day 2 at first showed a lot of the same stuff, but after a couple of hours really started to come around. With grilled chicken and bacon …

Black and inky in color. Blueberries, blackberries, leather, earth, black pepper and boysenberries. Very concentrated/extracted but with still with beautiful bright acidity. A complex, layered mid palate with a boring, monolithic finish. 14.5% alcohol.
