Clear, med intense golden. Off-dry, med acid, med(+) alc, med body and intensity. High viscosity and med+ finish. Good. Drink. My notes: Grilled lemon, spiced cake, petroleum, chewing gum, white flowers, bruised apples, cardamom, all-spice.

Somewhat surprised and underwhelmed. Very youthful still, high citric acidity, no real complexity. Had expected more nuance. A bit of grassy greenery notable, but hard to see where this will go with time.

Brundlmayer Tasting (Arlequin Wines, San Francisco) : Medium yellow. Citrus and exotic fruit. Deeply pitched, a touch of honey. Off dry, greater weight than the 2013. Good length. Tonight I preferred the younger vintage.

Really light on its feet with delicate floral and citrus notes over a base of stones and saline mineral notes. The fruit's dialed back quite a bit here with a powerful acid spine beneath, but it never comes across as austere, and feels far lighter than its 12% alcohol.

Cellarhand Riesling Tasting : Musk lollies, lime, bath salts and spice. Still has some light spritz and the acidity is at the fore. At this stage of its life, you have to really like acid to enjoy this, so either let it sit for a while or be prepared.

A private lunch (Restaurant Yamazato *, Amsterdam, NL) : Rich and waxy nose, deep, mineral and spicy, hints of yellow prune and peach; quite a slender and even austere style on the palate, with crisp acidity and rich bitters; good length. Uncompromising.

Servi en demi bouteille. Une robe or clair. Nez sur le coing et la tarte aux abricots. En bouche, c'est déroutant, la sucrosité se présente comme une couche de pâte de fruits qui tapisse la bouche, très difficile de deviner à l'aveugle, première expérience avec un Grüner Veltiner botrytisé, enthousiasmant !
