I really don´t get all these terrible scores because this is a very good wine. Decanted for about one hour and it was initially perhaps a bit closed and tight but started to unwind nicely. Subtle and pleasant nose of leathery notes and dark fruit. Medium bodied, supple and smooth with silky tannins, showing subtle dark fruit with good leather flavors and a mellow slightly meaty mouth coating aspect (umami!). Disappointing. Bought it in Rewe (supermarket) for 10 EUR. And 10 EUR looked like a good price for an aged Rioja Reserva. But the wine is dominated by a burnt flavour, whatsmore the body is much thinner than typical for a Rioja. So two halfs then which both are rather dissatisfactory in themselves plus they don't fit together. No clue if this was better when it was younger, certainly it won't improve going forward. Mørk lilla, litt uklar farge. Kraftig duft, med mørke bær og litt røyk og brent tre. Relativt fyldig. Mørke bær også på smak. Litt forsiktig syre. Mye tanniner som er litt for tørre. Mye krydder, for vår smak litt for mye. Relativ lang ettersmak, men dominert av tørre tanniner.

Impressive aromatic complexity for a $10-11 bottle. Has much of the leather, red fruit, vanilla notes you'd expect from a serious reserva, but there's a sacrifice--besides the oak notes, there's not much to this wine. Big nose, little substance. Still tasty, though. Really well done.

I tried the 2008 vintage of this wine, but unfortunately it was tainted with bandaid brett. Since the wine seemed as though I would have enjoyed it otherwise I decided to give the 2009 a try. Same thing - bandaid brett. Apparently this producer considers brett to be acceptable (or perhaps "terroir"), but it ruins a wine for me.

1 hour decant. Drunk with roast leg of lamb. Surprisingly good light, fruity classic young Rioja. A touch of young Burgundy to it: notes of strawberry and raspberry and only the very faintest hint of creamy, vanilla oak (moreso when first opened, after an hour decant and with lamb it just tasted of light red fruits).
