Furst, Burgstadter Centgrafenberg Spatburgunder GG, Franken

Truly remarkable wine. So much going on here. Aromas on the nose keep changing. Right from the start you pick up beautiful judicious oak treatment, certainly of the highest quality revealing vanilla and caramel. Fruit notes of raspberry, blueberry and cherry. The palate is elegant, beautifully balanced, followed by a lasting finish. Drinking well already with a long decant, this wine will only get better from here.

Every year a wine is pick out to follow a DRC wine - not easy , but this time a Fürst G.G. The same green stems note in nose , mineral , dark/red fruit. Very good wine. One to buy again.

Tasting Ground official tasting, Weingut Furst GG Spatburgunder (Oinoscent) : More floral than the 2014, the fruit is more on the black side, cherry notes, currants, berries. Palate is tighter, warmer, the tannins are stronger, the acidity is quite elevated, full body, highly tense and structured, long finish

The nose reminds me of Cote du Beaune but the palate is more austere. There's fruit but the acid is high. It's drinking well but I think it still can gain more complexity.

👁 dark shiny ruby with a minimal rim 👃 beautiful perfumed, nothing loud, right at you though with flowers and red and black fruits, minimal oak but great Madagascar vanilla and smoke (exactly what I wrote in my last note in 2000) 👄 medium+ body; all the 👃 suggested, but there is substantially more flesh and the tannins and oak show more funny enough but are fine, sandy and have an herbal long aftertaste 2027 - 2040 96p+

Burgundy Tasting (Restaurant Brunnenstube, Beinstein) : Clear, medium ruby garnet color. Fine, airy, herbaceous nose, very German. On the palate herbaceous, dense, somky, some speck, clean. Tannin not as fine as the other wine in the flight. Medium length. A bit disappointing for what it is. 90-91

Dark red, but still transparent. Red berries on the nose. Fruity, fresh and somewhat dry from the tannins. Lovely.

Masterclass with the Wine Advocate team: Great Pinots of the world (The Dolder Grand, Zurich) : Glass: Stölzle Universal Clear, medium ruby. Nose with some fine oak, dense, dark, herbaceous. On the palate fresh, high acidity, fine ripe tannin. Fine red fruit, herbaceous. Very good balance, elegant, very straight, good tension and energy. Long and lingering finish. Needs 3-5+ years. 94++

prepared sample N: complex, deep, dark and savoury. Dark blackberry, sloe, bramble fruit, with a strong top-note of something savoury, like wood, or leaf. P: full-bodied, higher tannin and pretty punchy alcohol too, with a slight tingle of heat. Full bodied, layered, and definitely a bit young right now. Lock it away to integrate some of that wood and soften some tannin.

Pop and pour, notes from 2 hrs open. Lovely Furst nose of dried leaves, black pepper, wild strawberry and pomegranate. On the palate: fantastic acidity and such lovely weight and density (elegant and more lightly styled). Black pepper, soft coconut and wild strawberry. Wispy tannin on the finish. Was looking for a Hundsruck, but found this first...last btl of this, which is a little sad, but this is drinking so well right now.

Pop and pour. Another spectacular showing. On the nose: ripe blackberry and wild strawberry, soft coconut, asian spice, so perfumed. On the palate: lovely acidity, density is amazing relative to what nose suggests; pomegranate, pomegranate molasses, wet stone, spices...then acidity builds, and finishes very juicy with very soft tannin. Wow.

I wanted to wait longer, but these are just so compelling. Decanted, notes from 1 hr open. Just stunning nose with coffee grounds, ripe raspberry, candied cherry...great complexity. On the palate, excellent acidity, a touch of incense, cinnamon, cherry liqueur, ripe raspberry and loads of spice. A touch of fine tannin on the finish, which shows citrus pith and spice. Medium saturated ruby red. Perhaps not as dense looking as a heavy Burgundy but not as light as an Oregon Pinot either. Bouquet is intoxicating – cherry liquor, candied lavender. But note, although this wine is far from heavy, it drinks best when it has breathed for an hour. Long and mouthfilling flavors, a slight bitterness on the finish that is not objectionable. Notes from Day 2 open (on the counter, unrefrigerated, overnight). Beautiful, perfumed nose with loads of rose petal, sweet cranberry, and a thick vein of smoked hickory. On the palate, medium- bodied with zippy acidity and loads of crushed black pepper spice; pure pomegranate juice. No real tannin on the spicy, savory, peppery finish.

Pale ruby. Highly perfumed rose petal, acacia, ripe strawberry, blackcherry, white pepper, oak, some undergrowth. Good mid palate concentration, flavours of red fruit candies, tea, prune and white flower perfume. Long finish but expected more focus on palate and overall finess.
