Day one. still closed, not much going on aromatically. Compact with sour cherry, some dark fruit and earthy elements. A bit of heat but alcohol is in check with 12.5%, 91pt. Day 2, much more open, nuanced aromas of sous bois, red fruit and spices, 93pt.

12.5% ABV. Decanted for three hours in the morning, poured over dinner. Cherry, red and dark fruit, red currant, light earth, forest notes, toast, and spice, as well as hints of coffee and vanilla, with medium-level acidity, round, well-integrated tannin, and very good length. Theis 2018 Spätburgunder Eichberg develops aromatic complexity with aeration, and speaks of the volcanic soil, but to me it is more about texture than flavor. It is very smooth, and creamy, and flows over the palate …

Still a bit closed from the start, mix of black and red fruit, mainly currant, with aeration tons of spices appear: pepper, cloves, herbs. 92+

Needs some air to express: mix of black and red fruit, more black than red currant, lots of spices (gloves, white pepper). After a short decant the wine is well accessible, burgundy stile with a Kaiserstuhl touch.

Cassis, blackberries and mix of red and black cherries, there are also smoky and mineral elements. It is nicely balanced, but still pretty young.

Badischer Spätburgunder, 2018. Im Glas helles Rubinrot. Tolle rote Frucht in der Nase. Kirsche, rote Beeren, ganz leichte Würze. Schöne Leichtigkeit und Ausgewogenheit im Mund. Gute Balance mit leichter Säure. Mittellanger Abgang am Gaumen. Guter Pinot Noir im klassischen Stil. Preis-Leistungsverhältnis in Ordnung.

A lot more Burgundian than its heritage would suggest. Served blind to a crowd of 6 from a half bottle. Guesses ranged from Vosne 1er Cru to Chambolle 1er Cru and Gevrey Village. A terrific balance in the fruit profile, low structure, and very elegant. I would love to drink this from a whole bottle in 3-5 years time, as it offers all the great elements a Pinot Noir can possess. Rather different from typical Kaiserstuhl Spätburgunder; the oak is …

for that price point very good Spätburgunder. Very good drink flow, good balance. Not the most complex wine, easy to drink

This wine was actually label as Pinot Noir as it is starting to be marketed here in the USA. A green herbal Pinot, fermented in large oak casks. Light color, 12.5% alcohol with ample acidity, this wine needs food to show best. Very clean, lean and crisp not voluptuous.
