You might want to prepare for this: Might be me, but the cork was too weak to break thru the wax top without breaking into 2. Had to use an Ah So but it was doable. The wine is as fresh, rich and opulent as I remember. Everyone seems to keep saying it has another few years of life but this is still so primary, dark and luscious. I get dark berries, raspberries and indeed the rhubarb and spice; but …

Another excellent and consistent example of Aston Pinot Noir. The 2007, inaugural release of this wine, continues to outperform current vintages of this wine. Highly recommended.

This is in a wonderful place right now. Almost overflowing with dark cherry, plum, earth, and a floral perfume. In the 4 years since I last tried this, it has evolved beautifully. Has the stuffing to go another 3-5 yrs.

Another simply delicious bottle of Aston pinot! Similar tasting notes to previous bottle and it seems to have many years ahead of it.

Rich and flavorful, nice balance of dark fruit, oak, and spices. Nice pleasant finish. Probably at peak in development now.

This wine has been all over the map for me but my last bottle did not disappoint. set out and opened for several hours with floral and spice on the nose. A well integrated effort of dark fruit, spice, oak and a hint of vanilla. Smooth finish.

This is the second bottle in a row that seems past its peak. It is drinkable but clearly on the downhill slope.

A little hot. Tis one just doesn't integrate nearly as well as the 777 into a memorable pinot

Full bodied and rich Pinot that walks the fine line between being too extracted and just right. The initial impression is that this will be excedingly ripe, but a wonderful mineral undertone emerges after a bit of time being open. Great Sonoma coast flavors of damp earth and fruit.

I really didn't care for this wine on day 1 as it had a slightly unpleasant quality that overcame attempts of the pinot fruit and flavors to come ot. It was better the second night but may be over the hill and needs to be consumed now. I will try another bottle soon to see if I just had a slightly off bottle or find this to be a trend.

45 minutes after pouring, this wine really opened up nicely. Nose of red fruits, flowers and spice, leaving little surprises with taste. The tannins were stronger than first impression, but nicely integrated and a long finish that left me wanting more... a very nice, intensive Pinot that sneaks up on you. Very very good - young; another year or two for me if I have the patience.

Pretty good stuff. Cola and red fruits. Medium bodied, lightly reddish-purple in color. A bit of alcohol pops its head in on the finish.

This may be a flawed bottle. The wine is a dull, cloudy brick color with a distinctly clear edge. It has a repressed Pinot nose, with subdubed flavors and a slightly metallic aftertaste. Disappointing.

Popped and poured. This is still a young pinot that is big and not fully integrated. Large amounts of raspberry, boysenberry and blackberry and cola. There is a little heat on the finish which should soften with a little more cellaring.

Wine with Friends (Our House, Avondale, PA) : More restrained aromatically than the Williams Selyem Peay but it has a heavier mouthfeel and is richer. This also has more acidity. Bigger on the palate than the nose suggests. Some spice and red fruits. Nice.

Incredibly ripe red cherry on nose as well as the palate. Very ripe character even comes across with some cherry cola elements. Alcohol comes across as even higher than the 14.6% on the label. I'm a big fan of TRB's River Marie Pinot Noir, but not as much this wine, at least not in this (initial?) vintage.

This was prefered over clone 777. Rich, medium-full bodied. Lovely scents of fruit. Red berries, cherries dominate. Californian in style but very pleasing.

--- COLOR: Brilliant deep ruby-brick NOTE: Bought directly from the winery and though it's not necessarily an abused bottle it hasn't been stored in consistent conditions for the past year. Nose is primarily dried strawberry, cherry cough syrup and a weird band-aid smell in the background. The mouth is medium, with tart pomagranate and cranberry, a little cherry tobacco, and then acid really dominates the finish. This is unbalanced and not enjoyable. The 2006 was much better. Had a few days ago and kept no formal notes. Had with friends over for dinner. We are all Pinot fans. We are also more apt to like Oregon or Santa Barbara PN. This however was REALLY good. Silky, inky, floral and fruity. Yumm-o

Decanted and drank over 2 hours. Initially tight and showing some tannin, the wine mellowed out and tannin integrated better (could use time to mellow). Nose of spicy cherry. Palate is loaded with dark cherry and cherry pit flavors. A nice acidic component carries the wine nicely. Notes of stem, and forest floor (earth) compliment the fruit. Notes of licorice evolve with time and the finish becomes creamy with vanilla notes (berries and cream). Outstanding wine, but probably on the …

Bought my whole allocation from the inaugural release....this is the first one I've cracked. I was very afraid of the tomato comments...as I hate tomatoes! I do get it in this initially...but it's more of a spicy Bloody Mary tomato with celery stick! I can go for that! This wine is VERY high toned with ripe and tart raspberry/crancherry/plum skin fruit. Purists RUN AWAY! This is hedonistic Cali Pinot here. Intense clove, sandalwood spice....dusty cherry, dried green tobacco leaves, smoked …

Raspberry and cherry fruit. This wine appears to me to be at its peak and was very enjoyable. Rich with hints of loamy soil. Smooth tanins and an overall soft, almost delicate quality to this wine that I was not expecting. No hints of tomato at all as others have described.

This is pop and pour. Interesting. As others have noted, a hint of tomato on the nose. Cranberries, citrus, and a bit of heat also on the nose. On the palate the acid and tannins dominate with a bit a tart cranberries. Light oak with a medium finish. Not a favorite Pinot for me and don't think it's worth the tariff, but YMMV. RM wines I've tasted out class this IMO.

Respectable power and lift on the nose, comprised of soil, chalk and a bit of wood smoke. Cranberries and wet topsoil on the palate, with a prominent citrus streak. Fully concentrated flavors, but much more ethereal than the rich and heavy 2006 clone 777. Acid and somewhat bitter tannin can still use some resolution, but the pretty fruit and secondary notes make this a nice drink today. Offers good balance and food utility.

Initial Impression: soft nose, but lots going on, very complex. In the mouth, it is similarly constrained, but I think something very good is likely to develop with some air. 45 minutes: really starting to develop, very pretty fruit, nice balance, good earthiness and spice. Each time I think it is relatively simple it surprises me with another layer, a longer finish and more on my palate to consider. A stealthy wine that shouldn't be overlooked, I am really enjoying …

Popped and poured. Booming nose out of the gate, dusty, earthy dark cherry and berries. Intense and persistant flavors of wildberry, dark cherry, nutmeg and a spicy component to the finish (that is enjoyable) but I can't quite put my finger on. Started out with a sharp, tangy acidity that mellowed to balance out with the fine, soft, smooth tannins and intense fruit. I'd describe this a graceful pinot with some fire and intensity. Tannins are more polished than most …

Enjoyed this wine a lot. Intially, showed the delicacy, spice and balance of August West, along with a loamy component and what I recall being a bit of cherry tomatoe. Fruit was both a cherry and pomegranate. As the wine breathed, and we consumed it with about an hour of air, more brown spice emerges, as well as fruit flavors.

Pop and pour, although will decant the rest for later tonight. Nice nose of mushroom, spice and some tomato juice. A bit of green is also present, but very minor and in the background. Tomato juice is again present on the palate, almost like drinking some V8 juice. Also get some cherry and raspberry. Overall very good effort. I don't think this will be a favorite of everyone, but I like it :)
