Bordeaux WIMPS #182 25th October 2024 (La Trompette, Chiswick) : Nose take a little while to get going but when it does there are hints of Biscoff crumbs and a touch of oatmeal on the nose. Palate is very dry with some hints of damp wool, some All Bran cereal a toffee wrapper. No sweetness at all. Comes to life a bit with the scallop.

Figured this would be over the hill, so did a quick chill/pop-n-pour. It wasn't. This is why we pull the cork on questionable bottles. It was exceptional. Sauternes qualities without sweetness. Imagine the best and most balanced Sour Patch Kids Kids candy was liquefied, that is if dried apricots was an available flavor. Savored over 2 hours and it never declined. Merci' famillie Cazes.

Alex's 40th Birthday (Alex and Fiona's in AMK) : Pretty straightforward, easy drinking, but this was a soundly made wine. It actually went really well with some fresh guava - which brought the Sauvignon Blanc out nicely. The nose was pleasant though, showing the remnants of oaky vanilla, some candied lemons and a touch of guava and ripe gooseberries, all ringed with just the lightest hint of grassy flowers. The palate was very bright, with punchy acidity running through creamy, …

Lynch Bages Blanc has yet to impress me. The whites from them are straightforward easy drinking but not worth the secondary market price. This 2009 offers a fresh and ripe profile of stone fruits, pearfruits, mellon and mild tropical tone. Direct and glossy without much complexity or excitement. Some heat on the palate. (84-85/100)

Always great to see a white Bordeaux that sings! Enjoyed the complex flavors, balance and acidity of this wine. Would be interested to see what a few more years would do to the acidity and ripeness of the fruit. Paired with a walnut, goat cheese, red onion and dried cranberry salad. Fantastic pairing.

Nice enough - started out super oaky but this mellowed pretty nicely. Yellow fruits, fleshy, a bit of white flower. Nice flesh on the palate.

This bottle really gained weight with air. At first it was somehow bland with almost sweet canned/dried apricot, exotic fruit and fruit cake. Over time it developed more acidity and way more structure. The fruit become more exotic and more stone-fruit driven with more limestone and less oak. It blossomed to become a beautiful rich wine. Worth seeking out for sure. Decant if you want a great bottle faster.

What an almost amber colored beauty of a wine. This is complex with all the typical flavors of the blend, a benchmark effort aging gracefully! It's my last bottle of this phenomenal vintage. Bravo Jean-Charles!! Poetry in a bottle, great for drinking alone, or with fish / salad, or with a nice lemony desert!

Leoville Las Cases Tasting and Dinner (Knightsbridge - Northbrook IL) : Grapefruit, very tart lemon and a little too much grassy character. Good acidity and energy.

Etonnante fraîcheur, robe or paille. Bon équilibre en bouche avec amertume soutenue avec des notes de caramel. Le vin s'est écroule au bout de 2 heures, chose normale pour une bouteille qui a dépassé sa limite de vieillissement. Quel plaisir!

The wine offered a fresh, tropical nose with some floral notes, pineapple, lychee, passionfruit, mango, green apple and ripe gooseberry as well as mildly herbal and vegetal notes, straw, butter, some vanilla, a mild spiciness and a mineral touch. On the palate the wine showed pineapple, mango, passionfruit, a hint of lychee, tangerine, ripe gooseberry, butter, some smoke and a hint of vanilla, paired with high, lively acidity, a good, buttery mouthfeel and very good length. The oak was well-integrated. …

Golden straw colour. As already mentioned, green apple really hits out on the nose, it's still fairly steely, stony and chalky, but after some time in the glass, the richer tropical and peach notes start to dominate. The acidity still really bites on the palate with bright apricot and stone fruit, with an undertone of vanilla and oak and a lingering citrusy finish. Concentrated but not complicated, very enjoyable. ****

Beautiful pale gold color, fresh nose of pineapple, green apple, and citrus. Nice acidity on the palate which works well with the same fruits again, little bit of vanilla and sweetness in the background. An energetic wine, racy with an overall pleasing dry minerality which lasts and lasts in the finish.

A mid to deep yellow with a golden meniscus. Characterful aromas of musky sweets, lemon verbena, and grapefruit peel, with a faint skunky/ammoniac edge, sit alongside herbal tones of pine needle and pine resin, boxwood, and oak sap. The palate is fresh and linear, if a little on the skinny side. There is an energetic acidity with an underlying richness from lees contact and a touch of vanilla. Meanwhile, the wine has a nervosity, almost restless, as zesty lemons lift …

The 2009 Chateau Lynch-Bages is an absolute crowd-pleaser. Simple with a spectrum of tropical flavours that is appealing, seductive and very quaffable. Bright yellow in colour. On the nose, tropical flavours of pineapple and citrus. Burst of pineapples, citrus, grapefruit and minerality on the palate with a slight sweetness from the Bordeaux sauvignon blanc, semilion, muscadelle blend. Well-balanced acidity really carried out the flavour of the wine. Nice lingering finish of its minerality and absolute freshness makes a wine that …

I am coming towards the end of a case and have thus far enjoyed drinking this without ever being particularly enamoured. However, tonight's was a peculiarly good bottle that has elevated this white Bordeaux, not always my favourite designation, considerably in my estimation. The first few bottles were all about the orange peel tanginess, although admittedly allied to a lovely smooth mouthfeel and weight that some quality oak conferred. However, there is now discernible nutiness and smokiness, complementing some truffles, …

Color: golden yellow Smell: Pineapple, delicate hints of vanilla, quince and Asian pear Taste: Green banana, pineapple, lemon, kiwi, and a hint of lime Overall: Outstanding! Light-medium body, med+ fruit, medium+ acidity, moderate length finish, and a brilliance that speaks to the complexity of the wine. I would gladly drink this on a VERY regular basis.
