Beautiful dark cherry color. Starts out rather acidic and reduced but with air delicious cherry fruit emerges with lots of crunchy minerals and a taut, grippy finish. An acid-freak's Burgundy but it's well made and quite fine and elegant.

Blueberry, red cherry, allspice, violet. Very expressive smell. Medium bodied, concentrated and sweet fruited. Some green leafy taste. Beautiful weight in the mouth. Long floral finish. Quite special. Ready for drinking.

Burgundy WIMPS #170 27th October 2023 (La Trompette, Chiswick) : Again quite dark fruited with some dissolved SO2 to shake out. When it gets going there are some red fruits and after an hour or so some hints of brown toast. Palate has some redcurrant sorbet and is well balanced. Not quite the depth of its flight mates but a very pleasant drop.

Classic Pataille character- forthright and full of earth, spice and lovely sweet fruit. So much better than the dormant bottle of 2020.

Mulberry, sweet fruit. Mulchy undergrowth, fading roses, thyme or bay perhaps, beguiling smell. Light bodied, medium acid, polished. Excellent

Such a beauty. Garnet core with a touch of orange on the rim. And coming into its own at almost 10 years old. Light and dancing. Just the most exquisitely balanced fleshy fruit and fine tannin, sweetness and saltiness, expression and impression. Cloves, pomegranates, raspberries, leather, and those sexy yeasty notes as well. Impeccable acidity. Impeccable wine. So refined. Ten more years?

Medium garnet red with slight brick rim. Very intense nose of sweet raspberry and red currant jelly, a touch of cherry liquor and dried herbes de provences. In the mouth, medium bodied, succulent sweet fruit, excellent freshness and some dusty tannins. Impressive length. Overall this has all one would want from a red burgundy; super balance - maybe a bit sleek and not the most complex or vibrant, but certainly very good to excellent. Now ´à point’ to drink.

This remains a high-acid wine but with beautiful cherry fruit underneath. Very crisp in texture and rather hard on the finish with notes of cola and minerals. I keep waiting for the acidity to calm down and the elegant fruit and spice to emerge. Will it ever? 88?

Beautiful ripeness, not flashy yet not too restrained, on the better side of the vintage. Crispy texture, expressive fruit, good spice and balance. 91

lovely nose of woodsy crushed cherries. Plenty of crisp acidity here but plenty of flesh also with flavors of tangy cherries with hints of sweet earth and mint. The finish is taut and grippy with notes of minerals and forest floor. Young still and quite a fine Marsannay.

Pretty nose of cherry spice and minerals. This is definitely a high-acid wine but there is plenty of ripe and delicious cherry fruit to balance it out along with a bit of barnyard funk. There is also strong underlying mineral content in the wine and the finish is juicy and succulent. Let’s see if this gains some complexity with age. 90+

Burgundy Seminar: Yesterday and Today through the Eyes of Becky Wasserman (The Fairmont - San Francisco CA) : Great spice aromas with equal pets of black and red cherry. Charming, weightless textures are surprising for Marsannay and something I really enjoy here. Very good now, with upside from here.

Pretty nose of fresh cut cherries, minerals and barnyard funk. A delicious, fresh wine with very lively acidity and beautiful succulent cherry fruit. Medium-bodied, transparent and quite sexy with a penetrating finish with notes of minerals and dark cherry spice. This should blossom fully in another year or two. 91+

This starts off quite crisp and spritzy with plenty of acidity but then this delicious spicy cherry fruit kicks in with lots of grip and intensity. Finishes rather complex already with more of that cherry spice and an earthy minerality that is intriguing. Really well done and clearly will be better in a couple of years when the acidity calms done and there is more integration. The best Marsannay I've ever tried...

Pretty, delicate nose of raspberries and cherries with red spice. Spritzy acidity accompanies lighter red fruits and minerals but the wine builds to an excellent intensity with a grippy finish and real succulence. This surprised me and is easily the best Marsannay I've ever tried and it clearly will improve with a couple more years in bottle. 91+

Why on earth did I only buy one bottle? This is both pretty in its transparency and serious in its depth and balanced structure. Even better on day 2.
