Dark red. Nose: Darkish fruity and some plum. Palete: Blurry, Blackberry, plum, Full body, some Oak, Sweetness, Medium tannins. Aftertaste a little to sweet. Reminds me of a typical but somewhat raw french Syrah? Can be stored at least to 2025 if I would guess

South African Tasting (Embassy of South Africa - Washington, DC) : Nose shows leather, spiced tea, clove, on top of black currants and tart black cherries. Palate is smooth and tangy but structured with currant fruit laced in spiced tea, leather, iodine and animal hide. Fruity and fun but structured and complex with a few years of aging potential.

Nice wine this, I can really recommend it. I can’t remember the last time I had a Pinotage, but I really like this one. Upon opening, not very exciting. Tight nose and palate, which really didn’t reveal anything. Dark red/purple, with a lighter rim. After an hour and a half though, this opened up nicely. On the nose, cherries, leather, some wood and more red fruits. Very juicy in the mouth, a very nice feel. On the palate, some decent, …

Poured a deep red color wine with oily texture. Aroma of grapes with light residual sugar and load of berries notes. Limited tannin notes. More robust them most Pinot noir out there but very nice wine.

Good value and a very good effort given the grape. They're about the only producer making pinotage I like.

Medium to deep garnet red. A touch of cheese, herbaceous notes and red cherries. A touch metallic on the palate with light plus to medium bodied. A bit meaty too. Moderate tannins (5.5/10) and medium finish. Drink till 2020.

Didnt check the grape but it seems like a feaux Bordeaux blend which I rarely like even in Bordeaux let alone in SA. That said, and my personal preferences aside, it's acceptably well done respectable value.

Kanonkop's baby wine is a vibrant, quaffable Cape blend, dominated by bitter chocolate and sour cherry, with some of of those slighted charred phenolics you'd expect from Pinotage, however the balance of alcohol and acidity ensures keeps everything in check, plus it's great value for the quality on display here. Drink as young as possible ****

They seemed to have found a winning formula here; 54% Pinotage with the rest 3 Bordeaux varieties, which tame the Pinotage and results in a solid, tasty, affordable red wine. Still enough of that wild, gamey, rustic Pinotage flavors and aromas to pique out interest. Super dark color. Full bodied mouth feel. Ripe red and dark fruit with plenty of secondary earthy, tobacco and mocha enhancing flavors. Smooth influence of mature oak. Lively fruity, nuanced finish.

Ruby with garnet rim. Nose shows evolution and is quite intense. Has aromas of fresh berry fruit, spicyness from oak but also earthy and of dried herbs like rosemary, garrigue and thyme. Palate is has a mineral and spicy peppery edge. Tannins are a little coarse. Elegant, aromatic wine with complexity, depth of flavour but at the same time lightness and subtlety. Reminds a little bit one of its parents (Pinot Noir)

Deep ruby with almost no rim. Pronounced flavours of black fruit (cherries, blackcurrant), dried fruit (raisins), oak (smoke & vanilla) combined with a touch of mint and mineral touch. A very complex nose. Palate, however, was not bearable - so much mineral flavour, especially rubber, tar as well as jamminess, loads of black fruit and pungent pepper. Left in decanter to drink the next evening. Will see. Quite a dissapointment after yesterday's Kanonkop 1990. Cheers!

Three hour decant. Lots of fruit on the nose - plum, berries, black currant, cherry - along with smokiness and some evidence of alcohol. Pretty intense aromatics. Very peppery on the palate. Fruit up front, finished smoky and peppery, with cola notes. Moderate structure, not a ton. Drink now.

Nat cork. A dark, pretty purple-black. Smokey nose complemented by pretty minerality and flowers. Smokey, dark fruits, bacon, almost salty. Medium body, tannins are soft and smooth but provide nice structure. Rich in flavor but easy drinking. NOt deep or intellectural but def fun. Old world in style. A nice change of pace and excellent qpr.

Fresh fruit nose of cherry and strawberry. This seems like a pinotage heavy blend. The cab really expresses itself on the palate. It shows cab varietal characters of blackcurrent and tannin with a shell of the other elements just hanging about. Quality spice and energy throughout. Not well integrated, but enjoyable and a good value.

Cherry, cassis, gamey, smokey bacon. Med-full bodied, moderate structure. You can really hear the Pinotage talking on the palate-- more of that smoky bacon, dark fruit, cola. Long smoky finish. Not my favourite, but after a couple of hours, the fruit came through much better. Try a 3 hour decant next time.
