-- decanted approx. 1 hr. before initial taste -- -- tasted non-blind over 1.5 hrs. -- NOSE: medium petrol; a bit apple-y. BODY: medium-light yellow color; medium-light body. TASTE: much more gentle than I was expecting, but with high, embedded acidity; 12.5% alc. not noticeable; nice persistence; drinks well, but plenty of room to get even better with time. Drink or Hold, but best to Hold.

Dry, tart fruit and laser precision. Higher acidity and I felt the fruit could have been a little more present. Very well made nonetheless.

This is the winery’s only “Monopol” offering, and almost 10 years on, it should be in a good place, given they tend to make their GG wines to last. Currently has a medium golden-yellow color, showing nicely. As one other reviewer very astutely points out, the nose “tricks” you into thinking this will be off dry: initial scents are reminiscent of grilled pineapple, ripe peach and lemon zest. Yellow colour has developed quite a bit. Lemon and ambergris and pear on nose. Quite fragrant. Full bodied, real mouthful, dips into dry white territory, hint of sweetness. With 30 mins air. Ripe and full bodied but also has high acid. Tightening with air and more acid is coming through. Really nice - plenty of body, lots of dry extract. Sweet lemon at the finish

Deep golden color with hints of green at the rim. Seems quite evolved. Powerful nose dominated by ripe citrus and lime, some pear, and lots of petroleum and slate. This is really something for mineral freaks. Full bodied attack, pear, red apples, lemon and lime. Searing acidity cuts through the ripe fruit on the mid palate, cleanses the mouth, and delivers a long and minerally aftertaste. The nose tricks you into expecting a sweeter wine with dominant notes of ripe peach among diesel and stone. On the palate an acid-driven mouth-coating texture yields grapefruit and stoney metallic flavors with hints of lime and white peach. A long finish dominated by Meyer lemon signals the end. Gaisböhl (Clairmount) : Part of a vertical spanning 2003-2017. 13% abv, AP 36. NOSE: A quarry deeper than the 2017, sepiated in ancient sunshine. Roots, mint, orange soda, mashed pears, ginger, and bamboo. MOUTH: Rather more tightly bound up compared to the 2017. Gritty scree adds grip. Stubborn vine tendrils bleed white-cinnamon apple liqueur. 91+

Medium straw, touches of gold. Day one was impressively energetic, earthy, and mineral, like dirty stones. Some vanillin, too. By day two, the energy is still there but it's more approachable. Honeysuckle, lime leaf, yellow apple, plum, vanilla, dry stones. Opulent and concentrated, yet fairly linear. Medium, powerful finish of fruit and stones.

Deep golden color with an intense greenish tone. Brilliant. Nose dominated by ripe lime and pickled lemon, some vanilla and bread (!), underscored by a clear tone of petroleum. This wine showed similarly to the last bottle tasted on 11/23/18. However, with this we held the wine for two days and the wine greatly improved with an increased sense of depth & complexity over time. This Gaisböhl was the biggest surprise for me in the whole tasting. The incredible complex nose is dominanted by this very ripe but clean yellow stone fruit mixed with tons of herbs, a touch of wild honey, cream and a hint of petrol. Wonderful juicy mouth entry. Mittel grüngelb mit goldenen Reflexen; mittleres Bouquet nach Birne, leichte Firnis, Petrolnote, mehliger Apfel, etwas Kräuter. Am Gaumen gute Mischung aus Frucht und Firnis, leichte Bitternote im guten Abgang, feiner Schmelz, Säure weich, hintergründig, nicht sehr intensiv, knochentrocken. Gut gereifter Riesling, dem nach meinem Geschmack etwas mehr Finesse besitzen dürfte, aber noch in sehr guter Verfassung ist.

German Riesling - Unsung Stars of the Wine World (with Stephen Brook) (London) : Fairly rich medium gold. Rather minerally nose. Much deeper and rounded, less fragrant than 3. Good on the palate, very clean. Richer but slightly more together than 3. Very ripe fruit. Not as long as 3. Quite spicy on the finish.
