Fifth bottle of six purchased in 2019. Cork in excellent condition, served at 20C, 13%. No decant; opened up over the course of an hour while I wrote this review. I was introduced to Domaine A cabernet with the 2000 vintage, which was outstanding. As for the 2003 . . . here we go. Colour: aged garnet with some bricking. Nose: Every single bottle of my half case has had a noticeable smell of corn husk. In the bottles most …

Supper with Jan group (McLeay Street Bistro, Potts Point) : From magnum. Herbaceous; a little mint and almost a touch of dill, sweet spice, blackcurrant, slightly earthy and a tiny smidge of salinity. Medium plus intensity acidity, juicy blackcurrant, chalky tannins travel long, with time the fruit gets a little more red hued and is joined by more earthy and leathery notes. Quite fresh and fleshy. Nice.

Opened this wine at home over dinner with a group of friends from the theatre days. We had zi char and ngoh hiong from KPT @ Blk 401. Dark ruby red in colour, with a perfumed nose and classic Cab characters all in place. Very well integrated and this wine sang very loudly and proudly throughout the dinner. Beautifully aromatic with a captivating aroma. As compared to the 03 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Crau, this wine is more …

Coravin fun - Random Australians with ring-ins (My place, Kent Street) : From Coravin and from magnum. Fresh wild blackcurrant and bramble, a little plummy support and a touch of mint and cedar. A little gentlemen's club. Freshly juicy, the mint and dark hued fruits go hand in hand supported by slightly drying talc textured tannins, long. Very pleasant indeed.

natural sweetness of the fruit balances the bright acidity and follows through to the lingering coffee and vanilla cream-laced finish.

Vibrant, fresh and ripe. Integrating oak, leather, some savoury and autumn leaves notes developing. Still have a decade to go.

At the winery and from Magnum. This is showing beautifully at the moment. Intense floral nose. Tannins mostly resolved, sweet and smooth, few hard edges. Elegant and long. ABV 13.5% with no hint of alcohol. Good balance. A$250/Magnum.

Every now and then I open a magnum and then reflect, “why the hell didnt I buy more of those?” A superb wine, beautifully aged deep black plum, refined silky mouth feel with restrained tannins. Luxury in a glass.

Cellaraid Discovery Box; 5/19/2017-5/26/2021 (Delivered to Home) : A garnet colour, and some mushrooms, bricks, and forest floor on the nose. Could get a good balance of cherries, strawberry, thyme, earth, tea leaves, and a slight bit of funk. Quite a nice one

Another stunning Domaine A Cab Sauv. Nose was slightly less than previous bottles but everything else was as it should be

Coravin fun - Cabernet (My place, Kent Street) : From Magnum and Coravin. Aromas of cold, wet clay and damp herbaceousness initially. With time leather and pencil shavings, graphite and, with extreme agitation, rhubarb and red currant. On the palate the fruit proves surprisingly sweet though still red spectrum, tight, grippy, drying tannins, herbaceous notes, pencil shavings, cream, savoury almost bitter spice on the finish. Hmm.

Not the best bottle of this vintage I’ve had - but still an enjoyable Cab Sauv

If anything this wine gets better with more years. Lovely wine that got better with an hour or two being open. The fruit has matured but the wine remains quite tight. Redcurrant, plum, blackberry, clove, tobacco. Medium bodied with a decent length.

Somewhat disappointing. Given price I was expecting a more intense wine. Hit all the right notes but was somewhat tired.

Am really enjoying this wine. Definitely showing secondary characteristics, with tobacco, leather and all that. It is doing this though with great finesse. Predominantly red fruits and plums on the palate, along with those secondary notes. It has enough acidity to remain interesting for some time.

Red fruits, especially cherries and maybe strawberries. Starting to get caramalised flavours. Acidity has mellowed somewhat, suspect this getting to its best, though other bottles have been much fresher. Really nice length, with the oak and tannins still there. A nice wine, though this bottle is not the best example.

Deep ruby. Still quite primary, with ripe dark berry and plum fruit, oak, and violets on the nose. Grippy oaky tannin, and lush darkly fruited palate. This is riper, chunkier and richer than the 04 and 05. Good, but a bit disappointing given the price and past experiences with other vintages of this label. (90 Good wine)

quite like a bordeaux...notes of farmyard and black currant fruit...jolly nice...in retrospect, though the wine is in a good place now, I'd leave it for a few years...

Cabernet Uncorked hosted by Phil Reedman MW (Sydney Wine Academy, 250 Blaxland Road, Ryde) : Colour: Medium intensity, clear, ruby wine Nose: Medium intensity, developing, clean wine with aromas of leather, mulberry, bramble, unripe black berry and currant, herbaceous notes. Mouth: A dry medium plus acidity with flavours of leather, unripe blackcurrant and berry, savoury meaty notes on the long finish. Good but right up my street. Perhaps the mouth is a bit 'wet' and lacks weight but very nice, …

Coal Valley Winery Visits Apr 10 (Coal Valley, Tasmania) : {cork, 13.5%, A$70} Subdued nose. Floor polish, leather, some smothered currant fruit. Showing some development, but still structurally excellent - hidden acid, fine powdery tannins. A natural-feeling medium-long finish on the palate; in all a fine wine that really needs some time to bring out depth and real personality.

{cork, A$65} Gorgeously pure cassis/currant nose. Barely any development despite the wine being 6 years old - and the current release! The palate is very primary, seemingly all cabernet fruits; tight, ripe, primary, controlled. 24 months in new French oak has melted away entirely; everything about the wine is 'medium-sized' except the finish, which is lengthy and classy, if a bit sullen at the moment. Very fine wine.

Nice low-end, cool-climate, cab. Bright red currant/casis fruit with lots of herbal notes. Sappy finish supported by mild tannin and good acidity. Not really special, but a nice Wednesday night wine.
