Domaine Poisot Pere & Fils Corton-Charlemagne

pnp. My first bottle of this wine, and the best Corton Charlemagne I have had in many a moon. Roasted nuts (filbert and almond), fully ripe orchard fruit, and drenched in minerals. Probably five years from peak and another ten years after that - not that I will ever know!

This is an excellent CC very characteristic of the terroir with a steely yet silky texture and refined lemon/lime fruit. There are notes of spearmint and chalky minerals on the lengthy finish that sports a lovely crushed rock complexity. A restrained and chiseled wine that's lovely now but poised for further aging. 93+

Waited a while to open my last bottle. Stilll needed the 3 hrs slow ox we gave it. Stunning...mineral drenched, but much richer than I remember the last bottle being. Fantastic lemon drenched crushed rocks with honey and grilled nuts. Spellbinding showing. Good contrast to the Batard we drank alongside.

Double decanted. Notes from 3 hrs open. I am in love with this wine. Stylistically, this is the opposite end of the spectrum from, say, a Louis Latour or Leflaive Corton Charly: this is so vibrant, and lemon drenched mineral, Corton Charlemagne. The nose shows green apple, and lemon curd soaked crushed rock with a very soft nutty note; so intense, I can smell this from a foot away from my glass. On day 1, it tastes highly acidic with green apple notes. On day 2 (after having it recorked and spending a night in the fridge), complex fruity flavours (ripe apple, pear, pineapple, some hint of tropical fruits) and well judged smokey oak flavours start to unfold. The finish is long and focussed, with a hint of salinity and minerality. Flavours are well balanced by high acidity. Very good but not profound. On day 3, the flavours become a bit flat.
