Allowed to breathe in glass 1 hour. Clear deep dark inky garnet color. Room-filling perfume of dark fruits and their liqueurs; violets, lavender, fennel, spicy oak, mocha, bay leaf, grilled sage, cardamom, mint, barbecue, forest floor. Full body, seamless, velvety tannins, ripe and generous with Bordeaux-like balance.

Still in great shape tho softening up. Typical BV: rich tho not overpowering with lots of berry fruit accented by American oak. Drink up if you still have some.

Wine of the year as I recall from wine spectator -- this was just amazing even after all these years (if you like older wine) - structure was excellent, tannins resolved.

Found this lurking in the wine cellar. Pulled the cork and big Cabernet fruit wafted on out. Showing remarkable youth for a 30 year old wine, with a deep red/purple color, showing virtually no age around the edges. The nose is of black cherry and pepper, with ever so slight a hint of leather. In the mouth, the tannins, while still providing a sturdy backbone, have mellowed to a soft & velvety feel. The cherry comes through on the tastebuds, along …

Saved this bottle to open to celebrate Sabrina's Birthday. Cork came out in pieces. In the glass dark ruby with thick legs Complex fruit, cherry dominated, tannins resolved. Second day even better but the third day was special. Cherry syrup, sweetness but a classic dry wine with emerging dusty tannins at the end, long finish. Only needs very small sips to enjoy. Shared with a friend the day after - same wow effect. Insane quality winemaking for this 30 year …

I would say this bottle sold on release for either side of $25. At this point, stunning with Chateaubriand. This is at its peak. Excellent integration & evolution. It’s in its stupid faze. The nose ripe blackberries, black raspberries, black plum, baked dark cherries & strawberries, pomegranate. Baking spices-clove, cinnamon, nutmeg & vanillin, dry herbs-sage, thyme, anise to black licorice, bight red, blue, purple florals, The palate is ripe; blackberries, black raspberries, dark cherries, both plums, plum, strawberries, cinnamon stick, …

One-hour decant through a screened and aerating funnel. Muted cassis aromas during decant. Surprisingly, the wine showed no sediment in either the screen or affixed inside the bottle. Wine was clear; dark ruby bowl lightening to a cranberry rim with a very thin clear halo. No amber or orange on the rim. After resting, nose had opened up and was reminiscent of a good St. Estephe: earth, black fruits, bamboo and some minerality. In the mouth: tannins gone but not …

Plum and morello cherry with some leather, crushed blackberries, flowers, and pencil lead. Soft and chewy in the mouth from tannins that are fully resolved. There’s a really nice sweet, dusty cholate taste to this, which you get on well-aged wines (especially on day 2). There are some tertiary flavors, but there’s still plenty of fruit and acidity. It’s a little overpowered by food (though not bad with a skirt steak with blue cheese butter and good with Salmon too), …

Dark garnet colored, medium-full bodied, big fruit aromas, black berry and black cherry fruits, slight earthy leather, licorice and a tone of bark on the moderate tannin finish. Still drinking well at this late stage, showing no diminution from aging - Perfect fill level and cork. https://unwindwine.blogspot.com/2024/06/bv-tapestry-reserve-with-tenderloin.html

So good but still youthful now as I mentioned this 97 still is many times previously. The tannins are round, softened but still meaty & somewhat tarry. The nose is still brooding. Ripe lush, ruby, fruits of, blackberries, black plum, black raspberries, dark cherries, baked to poached strawberries. Dark, rich, sweet forest floor, mix of Indian & Asian spice with palate piercing heat, notes of Cognac, steeped tea, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, black licorice, tarry notes, day crushed rocks, limestone minerals, …

So I bought a cellar; 11/12/2022-12/31/2030 : The cork on this bottle was fairly saturated, and I should have used a Durand, but only had an ah so where I opened it. Cork broke. But the wine inside was great. Still deep red in the glass with only slight bricking around the edges. Lots of red fruit on the nose, and no musty smell at all. On the palate, more red berries - cranberry, sour cherry, and a bit of …

Double decanted two hours before service. Dark red in color. Perfectly balanced wine with great red fruit showing. This wine shows no signs of decay at this point. It looks and drinks much younger than its 27 years of age.

Friday Night Brown Bagger (R&D's) : Double blind. Aromas of clay, black fruit, dried plum and root beer. Soft tannin. Flavors of plum and black fruit abound. Long finish. Doesn't change much during the flight but becomes more amplified and forward. Balanced. So very fine. Guessed "old school" Napa. (J&J)

Another super 1995 Tapestry! This ‘95 Tapestry was one of the wines that lured me into wine in the late ‘90s and early 2000s. I’ve since located a handful of bottles at auction (now about 20 years after those original bottles were depleted). This bottle was a superb wine to enjoy with New Year’s Eve appetizers. Tannins mostly resolved and just a tender beam of acidity, but wow, what wonderful and special fruit that remains! Other than the calmer, silkier, …

First of 8 bottles recently acquired as part of a much larger cellar contents purchase. Very impressed and highly recommed with the caveat that at this point these wines are definitely drink not hold - will finish these bottles by end of 2023 if not sooner (very likely much sooner given how good this wine is). A very good QPR wine at the average CT price. Has held up amazingly well which is a tribute to the Rutherford terroir, the …

This bottle is in fantastic shape. Wine is still pretty youthful looking, garnet color, even a little purple at the core, just starting to brick at the rim. Up front the nose has graphite, cedar box, wood shavings, sweet pipe tobacco. Black cherries are the main fruit component. Menthol in the background. In the mouth, acidity is medium, tannins are present but silky smooth wine quality. Surprisingly, the prominent flavor is of black cherries, blackberries, and only afterwards comes the …

A super Tapestry. So odd to look back at CT notes from @10 years ago and read notes about bottles being past-prime or gone or at end of life. Perhaps those were off or poorly stored bottles, or maybe the wine was closed? In any case, this 1999 Tapestry, which was one of two I recently picked up at auction, was excellent. Full bodied; no bricking; gorgeous sweet dark fruit nose. And, it was both delicious and concentrated on the …

Back in the late 90s I bought a case of this ‘95 Tapestry and I gradually drank through it until perhaps 2002-2003. It was an epiphany wine for me at the time - the beam of fruit and its balance was unforgettable. Recently I found a stray bottle at retail. I was prepared for the wine to be a shadow of its former self, perhaps even unrecognizable. But wow was I wrong - on day one the wine was a …

13.5% alcohol; the cork had dried out and broken off in the middle but I was able to get it out using a straight corkscrew with a handle, with a resounding pop indicating the seal was still intact; aroma from the cork was a whiff of vanilla accompanied by a trace of New Zealand Manuca honey, wine penetration up to 1 cm; the label identifies its Beaulieu Reserve Tapestry wine as 'a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petite Verdot and …

Very dark red color with a 6mm transition to clear edge. PNP, drank a couple glasses over 3 hours. It's been almost exactly a year since having a previous bottle of '95 up at the ranch. This bottle was from a different source. The experience was nearly a carbon copy though. I'm thoroughly impressed again. What a gorgeous nose; perfumed with sandalwood, leather, pencil, cassis, raspberry and hints of anise, gradually becoming really earthy a lovely pipe tobacco note. The …

A nice bottle overall. But I was expecting more with the recent reviews. Pours surprisingly dark, with a moderately lean nose and does have some layers of tertiary mature cab flavors, cedar tobacco etc, but ultimately it's not very complex or interesting to me and the fruit is pretty faded.

Dark garnet hue with a 3mm clear margin. PNP, split bottle over 2.5 hours. Brought this up to the ranch to have with my dad for probably our last fishing trip of the year. Boy was this a treat. I hadn't had a Tapestry with this much age on it before, and this sure showed that it can age and then some. A 23 year old BV Tapestry Reserve probably has no right to be as good as this one was. Showed much younger than it was. Beautiful balance of fruit, tertiary notes, acid and tannin. Juicy black and red fruit, cassis, wood spice, dried tobacco leaf, dusty tannins, and excellent acidity. Nothing overblown or out of place. A great match for chargrilled rib steaks, sautéed mushrooms, grilled potatoes and a Caprese salad.

This wine showed red currant, cherries, sweet tobacco; and with additional time, cedar, spice, licorice, and a slight note of mint. The tannins are fully resolved, but it maintains nice weight and moderate acidity. The finish was 20+ seconds. It did not fade over the course of 2-3 hours.
