Chateau Bellisle Mondotte, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru

Prisbillig st. Emilion Grand cru fra stjerneårgangen 2005. Meget mørk frugt og jordede/svampede noter, men stadig god struktur i form af syre og tannin. Den er i live. Ved ikke, om den har været bedre tidligere i sit liv, men bestemt et godt glas og måske endnu en understregning af årgangens betydning.

Bought as a future ($21) and stored in my cellar. Pop and pour, consumed over 3 hours. Appearance: Clear, medium ruby - still youthful in appearance. Nose: Clean, medium+ intensity, developed aromas of dark fruit - blackberry and plum, spice, capsicum, dark earth, and mushroom. Palate: Dry, medium acid, medium+ tannin, medium alcohol, medium intensity, flavors of plum and blackberry, spice, earth, and tobacco with a subtlety long finish. Got a glass here now as my usual MO and the nose is faint of forest floor and maybe cranberry juice. After an hour opening up, I get dark cherry and a minute amount of dark chocolate followed by a lot of acid. The longer it opens, the better it gets. 13.5% alcohol. M 80%, CF 20% (got this from a secondary source, so caution needed, but the taste seems consistent with that blend). Good long cork. Decanted an hour ahead; very little deposit. Deep colour, all the way to the edge of the rim. Good rich nose with dark fruit and little or no oak interference. The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like cherry. It tastes like stoniness. The body is medium/full. The wine has coarse texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has high acidity.

Slow Od for an hour; decanted. A nicely balanced medium-bodied St. Emilion; paired beautifully with lamb chops. Decent QPR at $30.

Balanced at pop’n’ pour, then after decanting the fruit has dissipated and the wine shows to be past its prime. Would have have been nice, but now a mix of nice and disappointing

Popped and poured thru aerator. Paired with pan grilled filets. Plenty of fine sediment. Bordeaux nose of pan grille, herbs, mushrooms and red fruits. Palate of red fruits, some brush, n herbs. Soft mouthfeel. Soft tannins. First of many 2005 Bordeaux in the cellar. Not a new world wine in anyway. Good to go. Drink up.

Pleasant wine. Not sure how much more fruit it had when younger, but this is far from a fruit bomb and lacks the silky velvet smoothness of most Merlot wines. Even though the acidity, tannins and mineral notes are stronger than the fruit -- it's still a nice wine. Definitely Old World without seemingly catering to the Parker crowd.

13.5% alcohol. Had this as part of a family meal, so limited notes. Very positive impression; a very vivid St Emilion, mercifully free of the flat taste of Merlot and with no overly modern features. In perfect shape too. Enjoyed it more that I thought I would. A success without a doubt.

Pretty ordinary St. Emilion from a great year. Somewhat disappointing but it does get better with air. Not sure whether it will get better with further age.

Slow O'd for a half hour. Exceeded my expectations: a lovely St. Émilion, soft, rich and delicious. Paired beautifully with a simple meal of roast chicken and baked Yukon Gold potatoes. Good QPR at ~$US30. Drink or hold.

Still young, drank it Aug 2017 and it can still age for a while. It was full bodied and drank nicely with a steak.

Dark ruby, cedar, plum, graphite, black currant and hints of mocha on the nose, limited of the attack but picks up steam on the mid-palate with ripe black plum and cassis fruit with mineral lift and round integrated tannins, finish is long with black fruit, earth, chalky mineral streaks and ganache

-Decanted one hour. Nice nose of black raspberry, plum, cedar, and tobacco. On the palate, still a bit closed but get some nice currant and plum flavors. Lots of grip on the finish balanced by nice acidity. Still needs some time. Gut score 89-91

Structured and racy with firm acidity. Somewhat earthy with flavors of black raspberry.

Started out pretty thin and tannic. Classic Bordeaux nose. Gained weight, fruit, complexity and earth after about 2 hrs. Drinking really well but will last a few years. Great fruit, earth, medium body with a solid structure. Superb QPR.

From a 375ml bottle. Upon opening, the wine had a lovely nose that was fresh, with red fruits. On the palate, you get plums with a bit of soil. There's just a hint of leather and tobacco (?) secondary flavour development there too. A nice wine, drinking quite nicely now but with a few years left in this.

Nose expressed more fruit than met the pallet, also strong vanilla extract which eventually blew off. Tannins are soft but still dominate the fruit, body is medium as is the finish.
