A Bordeaux-style blend made since 1985 with Nebbiolo and Barbera to capitalize on the success of Super Tuscans. It's quite textured and pleasant, but I struggle to grasp the appeal of this wine.

So I bought a cellar; 11/12/2022-12/31/2030 : Served as part of my WWC hosting when I couldn't find a second bottle of an Aubert Pinot Noir...Looking for something different and delicious. This delivered. A great nose of red fruit with age - so maybe slight cigar box and leather. Palate of cherry, mix of dried and fresh. Tasted at restaurant Spinerola, Moncalvo, where we had dinner to celebrate Alicia Cassani's birthday. I had ordered a 2016 bottling of this wine and was served a 2020 bottling. Unfortunately I only noticed it when the bottle was already half-empty. Not a good sign... On top the wine was served too warm and I had to put it on ice for a while. 2010 Mon Pra, 90p. Ett riktigt bra men tämligen ansiktslöst vin där de efterlängtade, förväntade, borde-vara-där tanninerna helt enkelt var en varm såsfläck på någons blus eller slips. Långt från ett dåligt vin, men Nebbiolo skall absolut kunna komma fram med mer stuns. Ssk från en god årgång… Syrorna var det dock inget fel på. De skar fint genom den 24 månaders lagrade julskinkan, mortadellan och salamin… Riktigt bra, men i sammanhanget en lillebror.

Das ist wunderschön, im besten Trinkfenster! Schwarzbeerige Nase, Holunder, Brombeeren, Malz, Honig, Süssholz, etwas Rauch. Am Gaumen mundfüllend, samtig, dicht. Aromenprofil ähnelt dem Gaumen, wieder sehr dunkel/extraktsüss, dunkelschokoladiges süsslich/herbes Finale. Eine Barberacuvee am Punkt! Tag 3 - nach zwei Tagen im Kühlschrank (halbvolle Flasche verkorkt) konnte ich den Wein nochmals probieren. Steht wie eine Eins im Glas, ist etwas tertiäraromarischer aber nach wie vor grossartig! Das kann noch einige Jahre im Keller liegen, wird sich allerdings nicht ernsthaft verbessern.

Fully evolved and aromatic this had flavours of stewed dried black fruits, cedar and coffee/mocha. Very rich textured it managed to disguise the weight of alcohol and was a highly satisfying mouthful. Plush and opulent, this had a real oak polish sheen. Very “international” in style, it was a real showboater. Drinking very well perhaps this lacked a little Piedmont authenticity compared to more traditional blends but nonetheless highly enjoyable. Score 90pts

Frisch gefüllt. Bumm! Das ist eine Bombe. So jungfruchtig, heiss, bombastische, explosive Aromen. Wieder viiiiele Brombeeren, Vanille, Gewürznelken. Bombastisch und vielversprechend.

Leider ein leichter Korkfehler... Aber in trinkbarem Zustand. Sehr strenge, dunkle, lakritzige und teerlastige Nase. Sicher fehlt hier aktuell Frucht, das führe ich aber auf die Phase des Weins und den leichten Korkton zurück. Am Gaumen geht's sehr dunkel/schwarz weiter. Angehende Sekundäraromen von Waldboden, feuchte Blätter, Pilze - aber auch dunkle Frucht (Brombeere, Zwetschke) und Teer. Natürlich hat der kleine Fehler hier etwas beigetragen aber ich denke der Wein ist im Moment sehr verschlossen. Nächste Flasche in 2+ Jahren....

Impromptu Saturday Double Blind Tasting $30-$50 (Bin 75) : Dark core with garnet rim; tobacco, red and dark fruit, plum, nice perfume, seashell, a little balm, licorice; high toned, spicy, new French oak (was thinking similar to Conterno-Fantino), young, licorice, cedar, hint of pine, tart red fruit, sharp acid; producer went through my mind during thought process but couldn't place it.

Friday Night Double Blind Tasting $40+ (Bin 75) : 45% Nebbiolo, 45% Barbera, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon; decent clarity with light garnet rim; cherry, green pepper, sandalwood, floral and bright with a darker edge to it; softer tannin than I expected, sweet cherry, tart, fresh finish; very good.

Tiefes Rubinrot. Nase nach Schwarzkirschen, Heidelbeeren und Bittermandel - leicht süsslich. Am Gaumen von stattlicher Statur, noch feste Adstringenz, volle schwarz/blaue Frucht mit gutem Säurerückgrat. Gute Länge, wird ein spannender Wein in der Reife!

Wine Adventure - Alto-Adige, Valpolicella, Soave, Bolgheri, Barbaresco & Barolo; 9/11/2013-9/20/2013 (Italy) : Very nice new world style blend of Barbera and Nebbiolo. Medium tannins and medium acidity. Mouth-coating texture with a fruit-forward palate of red and black fruit. Hint of dark chocolate on the finish. 50/50 mix of Langhe Barbera and Nebbiolo and you can recognize the two distinct varietals easily here. Step above your typical Italian Barbera table wine at a nice price.

Vanilla toast and blackberry extract..but all quite muted in this bottle. Black cherry black tea herbs and meats compose the palate finishing medium/short....the wine was a bit structural at this point mostly dominated by its acid and tannin..this bottle didn't tell me it has the internal balance to age well.... consumed in la morra. 88pts.
