Tawse, Meritage, Niagara Peninsula

Pour ce vintage 2016, l’etiquette indique qu’il est à boire entre 2023 et 2029. Le nez est encore assez floral, avec des notes relevées de cerises et de bleuets. Tout comme sa robe toujours d’un beau rouge cerise foncé. En bouche, ce méritage est encore en fraîcheur malgré son age. On perçoit le cabernet sauvignon en premier et le cabernet franc en second qui présente de subtiles saveurs de menthe et de chocolat noir. Le merlot y apporte des tanins …

Tasted last week, Suprisingly, still at its apogee and possiby for a few more years. Generated a lot of appreciative comments. A great Niagara wine.

The wine lacks the depth and heft of a classic Bordeaux blend despite the % cab. However, the acidity, tannins (ripe, small grained) and fruit are in balance. There is some lack of complexity with focus on red and black cherry, blackberry, some blackcurrant leaf, toast, vanilla. The finish is medium. It may develop for a few more years but lacks the ability to go the length.

Violet foncé. Nez sur les petits fruits murs délicats avec une touche de cassis. J'aurais prédit un Bordeaux à l'aveugle sans aucun doute. En bouche c'est rond, acidité moy+, longueur moy, tanins faibles, petits fruits murs. Délice. Ça peut vieillir encore plusieurs années vu l'acidité, mais pas certain que ça deviendra bien meilleur. Je conseillerais 2-4 ans pour la prochaine (si j'en avais d'autres :).

Trop cher. Pas sûr qu'il va tenir longtemps, in peu décharné et austère. À boire.

Très bien mais sans grande personnalité, le Cabernet domine.

Impeccably balanced, red and black fruit forward with notes of leather, spice, tobacco and vanilla. So smooth on the palate and a long finish that ends like a whisper. Absolutely stunning for the price.
