opened and poured to a dark color with no bricking on the rim. The nose was closed initially, eventually giving rise to some red fruits, primarily raspberry, and cherry. No Burgundian funk. Very smooth and polished, almost over done.

Simple one dimensional. One of the poorest Suchot's I have tried.

Popped and poured, this showed lush red and black cherry to start, well supplemented by sweet baking spice. Best when open 10-20 minutes, this slowly lost spice and brightness from there. Still enjoyable at the two-hour mark, but not quite the same.

A bright coloring when poured. Opened and let sit for about 30 minutes before pouring. Lots of cherry, strawberry, raspberry and a hint of rhubarb. Very smooth but a bit light, in keeping with the vintage. Delicious.

This wine has quite a dark colour with some edge browning. The nose is initially quite closed and shows predominantly red fruits with some gaminess. The palate is initially quite glossy and worked with the winemaking signature obliterating any terroir character. After 2 hours that almost New world glossiness abates and the nose rivals black fruits, dark chocolate and plenty of spice. This was reflected in the palate which while always on the austere side had plenty of character and …

Open 30 min before serving. Lots of red fruit with Asian five spice. Wonderful balance, good weight and length. Best to enjoy over the next 5 years.

Olivier Bernstein Dinner Hosted by Wilson Daniels (Acadia - Chicago IL) : Open 2+ hours before serving. Vosne spices abound when first opened, slightly less pronounced when poured/ tasted a few hours later. Red fruit throughout alongside that spice with wonderful balance and reserve. At its peak now. Great to share this from my cellar tonight with Olivier.

Someone summed it up perfectly below... old world fruit with a new world feel. I certainly will admit that I enjoyed the wine. 2007 and Les Suchots have been a good combination for me an a few instances. This wine appeared red to purple but drank toward the red side. It is not a complex wine, nor is it over-modern in terms of fruit and wood treatment. It was just yummy, fairly ripe red fruit with a pleasing mouthfeel and …

Candy sweet nose- a bit too much. Too sweet and reductive for my taste. Not flawed but simplistic in the company of the other wines

Lieu-dit Cru Bastille Day Suchots Dinner (RIA in Chicago) : Opened mid-afternoon, this then had 3+ hours in decanter before poured. Big and bold red and black cherry flavors. Lots of power and density, but also nicely balance and integrated. Moderete spice. More powerful than nuanced, but very pleasurable. Tasted single blind in its flight of 2006 and 2007 Suchots.

Big, intense and concentrated floral perfume but somewhat ordinary when it hits the palate...

Gary Weber Burg Dinner at RIA. Smoked deli meat, spice and funk. Excellent length and layering of flavors. Great body and mouth feel. Classic Bernstein qualities. Old World berries with some New World styling. YES!

Snowmaggeden with Vosne-Romanee (RIA - Chicago IL) : Decanted approximately 3 hours before being served. Cherry and strawberry on nose with lots of spice. Same fruit on palate, not quite as much spice. A Vosne that is more power-driven than finesse-driven, but really fun.

This is very ripe. The nose is primary pinot with lots of volume. There is a slight stem inclusion type of herbal note. Not sure this is destemmed however. The palate is rich. Darker fruit from Vosne. Some spice. There is a ton of soy even at this young age. I am surprised. Very nice length. This might become a truly great wine in the future. Very concentrated.

Knightsbridge's New Release Burgundy Tasting (Knightsbridge, Northbrook IL) : nose: very pretty and fragrant nose with tones of red cherries, spice tones, red currants and some bits of red fruits. Very well balanced, but lacking a bit of depth and complexity taste: elegant medium feel with medium/high acidity and good tannins along with fresh tones of red fruits, berries, red cherries and some bits of spices. There is a good polish to the tones, but the acidity is a bit …

Dark fruit on the nose with an herbal hint. Minerals with baked cherries and plum preserves. Bright, fresh, juicy cherry upfront. Young, woody tannins, but balanced. Long peppery finish.

Bright red strawberry fruit. High pitched. Hard structure. Not the depth I remember from this, and very angular which makes me think this one is really shut down.

Knightsbridge Burgundy Tasting (Knightsbridge Wine Shop (IL)) : Wine 9--- Unique nose - unlike any wine thus far. Bigger and with more fruit. Loads of fruit on the palate. Maybe a bit of a one-note Samba. Nose and palate are also both darker than wines thus far. Noticed a touch of South African style funk on the finish.

An impressive Vosne Romanee, with real depth and richness and dark colored fruit present on the palate, along with hints of Vosne spice. This didn't have the perfumed nose or spice of the '06 Jadot Suchots, but it seemed so young and with such great material present so I bet the rest just needed time. It went on the list to take home.

Knightsbridge Burgundy Tasting: New Releases (Northbrook, IL) : Wine tasting. Probably the most interesting and evolving wine today. This started out muted and even clunky, with good red fruit, followed by spice but lots of awkward tannins and a shrill ending. Not a good start, some people thought perhaps the bottle was flawed. By the end of the tasting (well near the end, this was long since finished by the actual end), this might have been the best wine. Raspberry …

Tasted at the Domaine with Olivier. Nice wine. Everything in there you could want. Nice thing about his wines are the masking of the oak. It's there but the fruit hides it.
