Decanted three (3) hours. Bright ruby color. Offers aromas red/black cherry, pomegranate, rose petal & bouquet garni. Delicate on the palate, flavors of ripe cherry, raspberry and cranberry are joined with notes of birch root and orange zest. Lovely now but best days are in the future. Hold & re-visit and 3-5 years.

This is an outstanding iteration of Pinot Noir, if recognizably Californian in its voluptuousness. I'm not sure how any red drinker could not be enamored of this wine.

Black cherry and plum kick off the core outpouring of fruit on the attack. Though the nose signals ripe and sweet, the red/black fruit is nicely housed in a dry (I mean, dry by Aubert standards) scaffolding of medium tannins and some spice. A pine needle note adds a bit of complexity to the otherwise fruity profile. It’s ripe and juicy, but it’s not overblown by any means. There’s a vanilla layering that needs some time to integrate; so perhaps …

Ruby red with only slight signs of age. Cherries, smoky notes and forest floor and just a touch of oak. Big bouquet and before tasting makes you think this is going to be great! Med + acidity and med tannin! Long finish. Black cherry, red fruit, dried rose/flowers with smoky notes. This is a great wine with a full body that just makes you want to savor this wine. Would guess this was only 4-5 years old and has 10+ …

Decanted for 30 minutes. Aromas of cola, sassafras, black cherry, dried strawberry and herb. Flavors of dried cherry, strawberry, mint, touch of prune and mushroom. Ends with dark cherry finish of 30 seconds. Bit better the last time I had it.

Fat, bold and powerful is how I would describe this one. It is both a pro and con to the wine, so much so that I think it is the result of stylistic preference. The wine pours a dark ruby color with plenty of sediment that is atypical of pinot noir, especially at such youth. On the nose, the wine is quite powerful, so much so that it is abrasive even. There is plenty of wood, blackberries, funk, sous bois, …

This one was opened alongside a 2006 Aubert Reuling, and in all honesty this one was thicker, deeper, and more 'youthful' although this one really was showing some secondary notes too. The nose of this wine showed dirty raspberry, clove, and entered with a much more 'full bodied' expression. Hawthorne and lily. The middle of this wine seemed as though it wanted to go darker, but never did. I think that the best drinking time for this wine was likely …

This wine continues to improve with each passing year. Today, the sweetness of the ripe fruit is deftly balanced by a delicious savoriness and subtle minerality. There is grilled figs and dried berry fruits with a slight hint of smokiness. Yummy. This is best paired with roasted duck or slow smoked pork perhaps. Aubert pinots always need some time, and I think right now is the beginning of a long enjoyable drinking window for this wine.

Big Pinot Noir with rich, concentrated fruit in the nose and flavor, blackberries, black cherries, currants, strawberries, along with spice, earthiness, and some minerality. Well balanced, full bodied, and a long finish.

Great Pinot aromas, not overwhelming, rather refined & elegant. Tastes of black fruits, mostly black cherry. Wine is balanced with some acidity and silky structure. To my taste though, it has perhaps a bit of the young-bright-fruity style commonly found in cheaper New World Pinots, which I am not a big fan of.

Big, dark and dense, but would not identify it as a pinot noir if tasted as an unknown. Black fruits in the aroma and flavor, not characteristic of any particular varietal, but full-bodied and very drinkable. Not too tannic. Maybe it will develop more varietal nuances with more time but I doubt it. Ric

Notes are similar to two years ago. A Pinot not for the faint of heart. "Subtle" or "delicate" will likely not appear in any tasting notes. Still yummy though, and I thought it tasted more composed and less wild today than it did two years ago. I'm curious to see what this wine will be like in another 5-10 years.

So this is a HUGE California Pinot. 7 years in and its still enormous. Would have to say this tastes more like a Cab than a Pinot. Its just so big, so much wood, so much alcohol (15.3%). Yes, there is pinot fruit in there its just hard to get to through everything else. A particular style; I happen to like it. Not comparable to a Burgundy wine. Think this needs time to integrate and I will hold my other …

I have about decided I like these chardonnay's young. The pinot's, on the other hand, love time. Dark ruby, tending to maroon. Big, bold, juicy, with rich clove tea, cherry, moss, violet, well integrated, with plenty of acidity and structure for balance. Still young and improving.

Opened about 5 hours before drinking. The nose just exploded out of the glass on this one. Not a shy wine. Bing cherry, brown sugar, earth and raspberry. Like the Chardonnay, a touch of heat on the palate with flavors of cherry, earth, mineral, iron and strawberry. More sour fruit at first but went away with time.

I've had a love-hate relationship with Aubert for years. It had been off again, but it was back on today. This '09 UV Vineyard pinot is certainly a massive, opulent, rich style. Probably the largest scaled pinot I've had from Aubert, which is saying something. For those who are "In Pursuit Of Balance" you better hide your taste buds. It's too alcoholic and too flavorful for you. It has a core of minerality, surrounded by gobs of fruit. Yum.

On the second day, left open, had a slightly more muted nose but opened up, more red fruit, huge cherry pie and strawberry preserves, more complexity and a very lengthy finish.

Much better than the last bottle, although clearly I did not listen to my own advice and wait a year. This time, a better setting, more time to breathe bring out pepper and clove to match the cherry and damascus plum. Not as intense as Donum, but powerful and balanced.
