Domaine de Bellevue (Jérôme Bretaudeau) Muscadet Gabbro Clos des Bouquinardières

Great wine. Great bouquet, smooth on the pallet.

It became clear that this wine does need the right preparation for it to show its quality. It improved significantly when served at the right temperature and given proper time to breath: What initially seemed like a somewhat flat experience transformed into a captivating wine, freshness and minerality.

Less of that reductive note compared to the last time we had this (8/9/23). Otherwise pretty much the same: silky mouthfeel, white fruits with medium acidity and medium length.

Sulphurous upon opening which blew off. pale gold. leesy, silky, round. mineral, salinity, ripeness. Overall nicely balanced but points off for slight lack of acidity

Wild night at Wildcard (Wildcard) : Second time having this wine, quite a crowd pleaser. Fruit-driven and fleshy, with melon and peach on the nose. Mineral streak on the palate, less acid tension than I expected, broad body.

Day 1: Mild but focused nose consisting of a cocktail of citrus (lemon/yuzu/grapfruit), grated apple, ripe pear, and chalk. In the mouth, it’s almost like an excellent Champagne BdB after the bubbles are gone - full of creamy richness combining sweet yeasty chalkiness and delicate/round but thick acidity. This is exactly what I expected from a Muscadet. 92 Day 2-7: it lost its fresh edge day by day (confirmed some of the negative community tasting notes), with almost marmalade-like bitter …

the wine seemed off. no perceptible TCA on the nose but a perception on the palate that something was not right.

A strong reductive note on the nose. On the palate it’s silky with a medium+ body, medium acidity, sweet white fruit and decent length. I would have guessed the alcohol at 13% but it says 12% on the bottle. It’s not a very fresh wine but quite nice nonetheless.

Distinct cat food reduction on the nose, big shame because behind that there is clearly a seaside, citrus peel driven nose. On the palate completely all over the place, massive astringency and gross high alcohol, rubbery, gin-like finish. Not drinkable unfortunately - normally if a wine isn’t up to scratch I’ll still drink it but this was just not nice at all. Tried decanting, but no dice. An evening of Becky Wasserman Wines (E&R Wines, Portland OR) : The nose is fresh and pristine with balanced tones of saline, white fruits, pears, green apples, sea spray, and crushed rocks. My experiences with Muscadet are very few, so I only have a hazy view of what I should expect when drinking one. Certainly minerality is something I expect and this had a lot of it, a salty and sea breezy feel to it. Roundness from the extended lees-aging, felt almost oaky in the texture despite never having been near any oak. Yellow apples, pear, lemon with a bit of zesty twang.
