Manzanita Creek Old Vine Zinfandel Carreras Ranch

A beautiful mature Zin, deep and full with a long finish. The common opinion is that you should drink Zins within five years of the date on the label... we could not disagree more, and one like this is why.

Closed upon opening, needed 1+ hr of air to begin to open up. Big at 15.8% alcohol but no sign of heat on nose or in mouth (but definitely there). Brambles, wood, dark fruit on nose. Angular, hits the top of the palate. Incredibly bright at 7 years old, tart red and purple fruit, oak. Mercurial - occasionally shows flashes of plum but then it's gone on the next sip.
