Classic McLaren Shiraz. Beefy and juicy but a bit one-dimensional.

Slightly rustic at first then opening up with blackberry jam, bacon, sweaty saddle. Full bodied, balanced by fresh acidity, sweet and slightly decadent blackberry and strawberry fruit, some menthol. Clean finish, a medicinal touch, but no distractions. Compared to previous occasions today it felt very typically McLaren Vale and perhaps less polished than the '10 vintage. A dependable workhorse nonetheless.

Great McLaren Vale fruit, bramble and blackberry aromas, a touch of sweet cream, spice. Full bodied but superbly balanced, everything kept together, fruit, acidity, mellow tannin, and savoury spice. Clean finish. What makes this wine so attractive is the elegance and style with which that lovely fruit is delivered. A class act. Terrific value

Needed a bit more time to open up, this time, and felt more primary than previously. Maybe closing down. Excellent nonetheless. Keep

Tasted blind. Reticent nose, muted grape spirit, sandalwood. Reductive... probably due to screwcap. The palate is brighter, crunchy red fruit, suave mouthfeel, nice balance. Finishes very well with crisp red crimson fruit and good acidity. Excellent. Voted WOTN unanimously although it was quite a shock when the wine was revealed. You live and learn--- nobody expected an Aussie shiraz to walk away with it.
