Toasted nuts and honey on the nose. Dried apricot, nuts, caramel, and spice on the palate. Bright acidity, slightly syrupy mouthfeel, long nutty finish

Bottle is not flawed, but this is my first white port, and I don't like the disjointed structure: on the one hand, the added brandy has a gin-like flavor which I wasn't looking for; on the other, the underlying wine has pleasant enough fruit, but it's not well-integrated with the fortification. I love Kopke's colheitas, but this isn't for me.

Decanter Fine Wine Encounter (The Landmark, London) : Medium minus intensity aromas of sweet spice, dried fruits, prunes, leather, slight rancio with nutty notes. Medium plus intensity acidity, super juicy, savoury and saline, textured rasp is a soft burr, flavours are slightly more muted here. Hmm.

Kopke Flight (Kopke - Porto) : Not tasted blind. Amber-gold, slightly deeper than the 2006. The nose is expressive, showing white molasses, honeycomb, and a faint woody bark note. The palate is composed and refined, beginning with gentle sweetness and maintaining balance across a polished mid-palate. The finish is sweet yet moderate, with fine acidity and tension. Best appreciated on its own, where its aromatic depth and subtle oxidative nuance are fully revealed. HL 2 × FD 1.5 × SB …

Consumed over a month as an alternative to G&T but usually with mint and orange in lieu of lime and basil. Enjoyable either way, but mint and orange is more refreshing for me. A fun, lighter alternative to G&T.

Ports from the 1970s to the 1990s - Sammamish Port Club (Seattle, Washington) : Bottled in 2016. A deep amber-orange hue with golden highlights. The nose is wonderfully complex, offering layers of caramel, toasted oak, and dried figs, interwoven with notes of nougat, vanilla, and delicate orange blossom. The palate is luxuriously thick and rich, yet balanced by a velvety texture. Flavors of butterscotch, roasted hazelnuts, and a touch of molasses evolve into a lingering finish. A final note of …

D5 DipWSET FORTIFIED WINES - home prep : A: Medium amber (and yes, there is something of a green neon halo around the rim under good light) N: Pronounced nose of sultanas. dried apricot. truffle, caramel, hazelnuts, semi sweet chocolate, allspice, nutmeg, dried tobacco leaves P: Sweet, medium acid (3 sec drip test), high alcohol (20%), full body, pronounced intensity and long finish Wonderfully complex, ideal length, optimal intensity and sufficient balance between the acidity perceived and the residual sugar …

My first aged White Port was a remarkable experience! Bottled in 2017. Slightly cloudy, deep amber. Intense, complex, slightly Madeiraized nose, with candied orange peel, dried figs, walnuts, marzipan, caramel, honey, vanilla, mushrooms. Med sweet, but the sugar is nicely balanced by med (+) acidity and a hint of tannin. Full-bodied (20% abv), with pronounced intensity and great length. Very good by itself or with Panettone and nutty Christmas desserts!

Pre-Tour - 2021 FTLOP Harvest Tour; 9/20/2021-9/25/2021 (Porto, Portugal) : Dark yellow-gold color. Deep, rich, and complex nose of oak, citrus, and candied navel orange peel. Orange spice and burnt sugar (like the crisp top of a creme brulee) on the palate. The tannins are round, and there is great balance and rich complexity on the finish.

PnP at refrigerator temp. Served as an aperitif -- cold with a few ice cubes. A bit drier than we like, but better than our bottle of 6/25/17. Pear and some citrus flavors showed through along with solid acidity. I know I said that we would not be buying this again, but I'm glad we did.

Kopke Red and White Tawny's (P81) : Lovely flavors of Orange and Mandarin with a touch of hazelnuts and vanilla. Lovely acidity and good balance. Has a great intensity and a very good balance between sweetness and acidity. Great wine. Bottled in January 2020.

Room temp. First time having dry white Porto and so far I’m wishing I hadn’t—a rarity for me with wine. This smells like kids Motrin and lemony brine. Texturally it’s oily, with obvious port heat and medium acid. There’s too much oil—or is it rendered fat?—leaving the rest flat.

Riper notes on this one, besides the aromas of the 10 years old, elderflower, nuts, almonds and honey there also are some figs, dates and dried fruit on the nose. Also more spice on the palate, with a little more sweetness and little less tannins. More complex and deep.

Kopke Ports : Orange/amber color. Smells lovely: orange marmalade, apricot jam, green tea, ginger, almond, honey. Rich but so fresh on the palate with moderating acidity and plenty of orange, candied pineapple and mango flavors. Notes of graham cracker, cinnamon, candied ginger, along with complex elements of sea salt, spiced white tea, clover, floral perfume, honeycomb. Wow, this is complex, deep, delicious, gorgeous stuff!

Not sure when this half bottle was bottled. Colour is a complex tawny but without any red tones, but some green. High toned but not as much as Madeira. Orange and savouy nutty nose, but it is the palate that really explodes. Powerful, off-dry, intense with terrific texture. Chalky, almost tannic. So long. Hard to imagine a better port of any colour.

2017 Friends & Family; 9/20/2017-9/23/2017 (Portugal) : Petrol, oak, lemon, and citrus on the nose. Rich mouthfeel with lemon and tropical fruits on the palate. A nicely balanced wine that retains its complexity of fruit, tannins, and bright acidity. Suave, long finish.

PnP at refrigerator temp. Served as an aperitif. Drier than I like -- our favorite is Dow's Fine White. Hot (alcohol) finish, which increased as it warmed. Pear and some citrus flavors showed through on what is definitely a racy, and hot, white port. Will not be buying this again, but glad we tried it.
Taster #8807 · Dec 21, 2016
From memory. 1/2 bottle. Really a white port? It was more like a red tawny to my eyes, perhaps a bit lighter but still. It smelled and tasted like a mix of Jerez (PX) and red tawny. Deep and rich. Sweeter than the other ports we tasted. Dried fruits, caramel, figs and raisins. Very good acidity still, so overall balance was very good. We had it on its own before revisiting with the rib steak and eventually the stilton and …

From a half bottle that had been opened, and half drunk, the night before. Very full nose, lots of dried fruit and fruit cake. Is this really *white* port? On the palate too, the fullness, and general redness of the fruit means that I'd never ever have guessed this was a white port if I'd been served it blind. I'd have thought it was probably a 20 year tawny. Delicious stuff, though if you were wanting something more typical of …

2016 Port Harvest Tour; 9/18/2016-9/25/2016 (Portugal) : Orange amber in color with great clarity. Orange peel, pralines, and vanilla on the nose. Very unctuous approach with orange spice that gives way to unctuous burn sugar and caramel on the mid-palate. Long finish with bright acidity.

Bottled 2015. Half bottle. Pale orange amber colour; aromatic nose of golden grapes and white nuts, fresh and deep, floral lift, hint of linen; seamless and juicy palate, intense and elegant, medium sweet, lively and youthful, perfectly integrated tangy acidity; nutty finish, hint of vanilla pod, very good length. A truly delightful, harmonious, 30 year old white. In the bar at Hotel SP34, Copenhagen, Denmark.

Sweet and dry, nice complement to strong cheese and charcuterie. The finish had a slight bitterness to it but I'm not sure if that's a normal characteristic or not. Wine Cellar stated I should have opened this 3 years ago so there could be that.

Had never had a white port before and enjoyed it a lot. Dry white wine aromatics with sweet grape juicy flavors. A fun dessert or movie night treat. Is excellent as a Portotonic (a Gin and Tonic with this substituted in for the Gin)
