Opened flat and watery, then slowly added weight with a 2 hr decant -- this needed at least an hour. Pepper/spice, dried black fruit, plum, leather. Improved from the last bottle consumed in 2015. Great syrah still holding on -- I dont think this will improve, but it wont fall off a cliff either.

Smooth dark fruits that are no longer primary, getting lots of bacon notes on the nose. The acidity has really dropped off making this come across quite mellow.

Agree with other reviewers .. this is hit it's peak or heading down right now and I also don't see this improving but within the next few months should be a really good drink still.

No issue with fine loose sediment as with previous bottle. Fruit has receded some more since last year, leaving tar and burnt rubber notes more prominent. This is now on a downside slope and I would consume these soon.

My last bottle. Drinking well now. Meaty/dark fruit/licorice aromas, with matching flavors. Fully integrated medium acid/tannins. I don't see this further improving with age but should drink well through its 10th birthday.

Pre-Tasting Lunch, Rhone Varietal Edition (Happ Inn - Northfield IL) : Tasted double blind. Black cherry and berry throughout with moderate weight, moderate length and very elegant styling for California Syrah. I thought it Northern Rhone.

Lots of sediment that made it into most pours from the decanter as it was loose in the bottle as opposed to the more typical left on the bottom. Fruit still nice, but starting to lose some steam.

Really nice bottle. Not showing its alcohol and not at all bitter, it stilled showed tannins and lots of blue fruits and hints of balsamic.

Fantastic bottle - entering its prime. Tannins, while still there, have receded a bit to showcase some amazing complexity. This is not an big masculine Syrah. Rather, it has the restraint to allow some light caramel and licorice notes to shine through - along with the typical spice, pepper and dark fruit. My next bottle will not be shared with three others :)

Tasting, brief note. Nice floral start with good spice and plenty of black pepper. I like the black berries on nose and palate. Moderate weight and finish.

RPERRO has this one exactly. It's an inky wine with a lot of complexity on both the nose and the palate, gobs of black fruit and spice, silky texture, fine tannins, with a bitter chocolate note at the finish. I was serving couscous with two Moroccan tagines, and it's hard to imagine another wine that would stand up to the savors and spices. Bravo!

A pleasing syrah, more cool climate and austere than typical for a Sonoma syrah. However, this is a northern facing vineyard set on a hill ranging from 500 to 900 feet in 9.5 acres of vineyard, so the more cool climate profile is not too surprising. This opened up tight, with not much aromatically. However, this gradually opened up to reveal aromas and flavors of dried dark fruit, pepper, spice, leather, and bramble. This was somewhat lacking on midpalate density …

I think I'm going to be more careful about the wines that I buy at Total Wine from now on. This wine (after a 90 minute decant) had some stone frruit flavors, but not all the blueberry, fruity flavors that other reviewers mentioned. Ther are drying tannins mid-palate along with tart acid. Overall, a very lean, angular wine. Not going to be the best with tonight's grilled steak. I guess that comes under the category of "White Peoples' Problems. I …

Just getting around to writing this on 1/5/15 after drinking it on Xmas Eve. Thanks, EM, for that reminder. My experience of the wine--and somehow I have failed to make notes of the several other bottles I have had, save one--was different. This had good savory elements, as well as black plums, peppers, those blackberries, some charred meat ends, and well harnessed acid. Tannins were smooth, even a little subdued. This was my last bottle of the '09, so it's …

Really enjoyed this, though certainly not restrained. Prefer the 09 to the 10.

Decanted 1 hour. Super dark, almost black in color, with big aromas of black fruit, cracked peppercorn and violets. Blackberry, pepper and earth on the palate, finishing with a bitter dark chocolate flavor. This is some really good stuff!

Aromas of blueberry, blackberry and balsamic. The structure matches my previous note: medium bodied, acidic, savory, and intense. The flavors largely match the nose with an additional meaty note. Medium acid/tannis. Drinking well now with just a bit of air but should easily last several more years.

A full, pungent nose of blue fruits and bbq sauce is given lift by some floral perfume. Expansive blackberry cream, coffee, and roasted meat flavors on the palate are presented in a medium weight frame with well integrated acids. It isn't a heavy wine per se, but it does convey some sweetness of fruit that I don't associate with the Rhone. Similar to the 09 Carlisle Cardiac Hill I had in July drunk under similar conditions, only a bit more …

Drinking well with a 30-45 minute decant. This is what I look for from a cool vineyard New World syrah... notes of meat and smoke, deep blackberry fruit, good acidity, and not too high in extraction or alcohol so it still has some finesse. I think this has some upside with more age.

Strained for sediment (lots) and decanted approx. 30 min. ... This is my second Jemrose single-vineyard Syrah and I am very impressed. This is rich and expressive, but in no way over the top. Smooth, supple and abounding with fresh, bright cherries and blackberries on the nose and palate. Just a hint of cream, and a dollop of baking spices tops a warm, loamy earthiness. Good backbone and a pop of acid. Complex and structured, yet easy to drink and …

I had this in June 2013 with RiverRat and RP at ReddWood and was really impressed, so when it went on sale last Christmas via the winery, I jumped. So glad I did. Aromas of perfectly grown Syrah--no heat, not jammy, but rich violets, plum skins, a waft of white pepper, and roasted meats--just the tips where it's caramelized. In the mouth, a little dark plum, blackberries (but not a bit jammy), that charred meat, hints of the pepper, and …

This is solid, delicious. The whole cluster gives this a pungent note with pepper and black coffee.. Great depth of charry, roasted red fruit. This is doing great, bit fuller bodied and good life so no rush to open my last. Drink through 2017
