This is a gritty, hardcore Italian with a good set of hair. For whenever Ooomph is needed, this is a King!

Secondary aromas galore on this one. Truffle and mushroom dominate but some fruitiness in the form of black fruit. Tannins are present but have mellowed and softened with age. Dry. Medium acidity.

Big ST, that showed neither balance or reserve. Bold dark fruit still present (no age fall off) but overly tannic, alcoholic (hot) and just not a wine that is going to get better with age. Scored poorly across the board with 8 blind tasters, despite being the most expensive bottle tasted. I've not followed this producer, but boy I'm glad I only bought 2!

Dark fruits, spices. Great wine, particularly for the price.

Nose of rhubarb, leather, raspberries, blackberry jam, and black pepper. Tannins are robust; yet the finish needs a bit of work.

Visiting Rome and Tuscany; 6/18/2019-7/2/2019 (Lazio and Tuscany, Italy) : Luce della Vite's Lucente is the second wine of their icon Super Tuscan, Luce. The 2011 Lucente is a blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Sangiovese, aged for 12 months in oak barriques (55% new French, 5% new American oak and 40% once-used French). Still a youthful opaque ruby in color, it is effusive of ripe red currant and black raspberry fruit, accented with notes of dark chocolate, anise, sage …

Full-bodied with black cherry, tobacco, and herbs notes. The finish has moderate tannins, and just a light touch of acidity and spice. A very nice example of a Super Tuscan at a reasonable price.

75% merlot, 25% Sangiovese. **1/2

Pop and pour through vinturi. This had the delicious factor, for sure. Rich, dark cherry fruit, tobacco, spice. Lovely texture, long finish. A stellar super Tuscan for $22. Drink now or hold for another 3-4 years.

A 2-3 hour decant made all the difference with this wine. This bottle was much better than my last. Candy apple red, closed in nose, but pleasant. Fair body, not over the top. Good fruit with balanced tannin.

Too young. Tannins still dry. Nice fruit and ripe otherwise. I'm not sure of the potential long term: will the tannins integrate with fruits still being present ?

Decanted 2 hours. Not much better than my last bottle. Thin. Nice color. But lacking in much character. Not really going anywhere. Drink anytime soon.

Lush and purple. Opaque. Nose has a touch of violet and plum. Black licorice. Blackberry and blueberry pie. Very rich Cali spin on Tuscany. I love this at the $22 price point! Stellar QPR. Might be able to use a few years but soft tannin went fine with my dinner. Sangiovese/Merlot, mixed new and used French oak, a bit of American. Taste every bit of that oaky vanillin. 14.5 ABV. Drink again, definitely!

Nice wine. Definitely needed a 1 hour decant. A little empty in the mid and back palate. Lovely color. Not a full bodied as I like. Still some life left.

Drank at Lu Nello with A, Aggie and Jeff. Very good Tuscan red for the money. Some licorice notes in a very nicely balanced wine. Everyone really enjoyed it.

Ultra-rich purple. Heady, blackberry pie nose followed by more of the same on the palate. It tastes like Tuscany via Napa, which is what it is, Mondavi + Frescobaldi. The leather and earth and tongue-coating tannin suggest Italy, but the oaky, vanillin wrapping paper is all California. The fruit is pure and rich, and, powered by moderate acidity, the berry flavors hold through the tannic finish. Still, the finish will likely sing longer in a few years when the tannins …

I enjoyed this wine. Modern in style, with a good dollop of black fruit, velvety soft tannin, mocha and mint. There is good acid in the wine and it has a medium weight. I might buy a few to drink over the next 2-4 years.

Italian-theme Christmas Dinner (Novi, MI) : This wine divided the group, being the favorite of some and one of the least favorites for others. Those with an old world / less ripe fruit leaning palate really enjoyed this wine. I thought it was a decent example of the style, and a good value as well. Me - 89, Wife - 88.

While I really enjoyed this tonight, I almost feel it's a shame to have opened it now; it really needs a few more years to come into its own. The color was a deep red with a touch of dark brown. Forward and forceful aromas, a somewhat strange mix of ripe plums, allspice and a curious bitterness reminiscent of fresh thyme. Some pretty solid tannins kept the palate fairly closed, unfortunately; there was a bit of sangiovese's cherry and merlot's …
