There is a lovely core of light cherry fruit but it lacks intensity and excitement. The finish is mildly complex but just not giving much. A disappointing bottle from the same batch as the others but not as compelling.

Elegant and quite lovely. In peak form here!

Quite light in color but very fresh on the nose and palate. This is a classic Caillerets that's taut and succulent with elegant cherry fruit and intense stony minerality. It dances on the tongue and is somewhat old-school but in a good way with just the right touch of barnyard. So yum and seems at full maturity but will last.

This has a lovely ethereal texture with delicious cherry fruit and a crunchy, mineral-driven texture. I like the taut finish which is succulent and grippy with lovely notes of red spices and chalky minerals. A more rustic style of Burgundy but it delivers and while still youthful, it's eminently drinkable tonight. 91+

Excellent. Complex rich, woody, forest floor aromas. Sweet core of red fruits, surrounded by warm woody flavours, and a lovely refreshing touch of mint or pine. Superb, elegant Volnay. 13.5%, cork.

This is a very traditionally-styled red Burg with firm acidity and earthy cherry fruit. It's silky-fine and light in body but finishes with terrific intensity with complex notes of sous bois and crunchy but delicate red spices. Succulent and high-toned at this point but superb with food - in this case my wife's awesome Chinese-styled dumplings.

This is really a classically-styled red Burg with very pure earthy, wild cherry fruit and chalky minerals. The texture is grippy and crunchy with excellent succulence on the long, complex, spice-driven finish. Light on its feet but full of flavor. Seems in mid-age and I like it now for the delicious spicy fruit and perfectly integrated structure.

Fabulous savoury, charming, complex. Near perfect Volnay for drinking now. 13.5%, cork.

Post Wu's blinds. Very pretty and rustic. Nose primarily of dark cherry, with maybe a touch of earth which led everyone to Gevrey. Drinks younger than a 2010; very nice.

Very classic and lighter-bodied Volnay with beautiful crunchy cherry fruit and a fine, silky texture. The finish is complex with notes of cherry spice and crushed stones. A lovely traditional Burgundy that's in its drinking window now.

Cherry, raspberries, sous bois, almond, notes of spiced plum; smooth, silky, fruitful, still quite primary, moderate length on finish, pleasing and good; much better and more developed and open than three years ago

I think better than the 2009, has preserved a tight core of sweet fresh fruit. Based on the quick evolution of the 2009 Volnays I'd be reluctant to leave this long. Enjoy now. {13%, cork}

Cherry, hint of apple and almond; light fruit, sticky, persistent, cascading, long finish

Had this with the 2010 caillerets. This was oakier and fuller bodied. Less elegant. Both equally enjoyable.

Had with the 2010 clos des chenes. This had purer fruit and wet stones. Not as oaky of full bodied. But I liked them equally well.

Normally I'd let these bottles sit for 10 years, but many of the '10's have been so good young that I rolled the dice. The texture is pleasantly silky, body medium+; there's good pinot fruit, intense, primary and a bit rowdy, and a good finish. Good balance. Based on some '12 B-Z bourgonge I drank last year, I'd imagine that this is very traditionally-made Volnay that is now showing a small fraction of what it will have to say in …

Light and very clear ruby color. Softer nose of sweet earth and cherry cardboard. Quite light and ethereal on the entry with delicate ripe cherry fruit and lots of fresh acidity. Then it starts to build in the mouth to a lovely spicy, intense finish with complex notes of earth, cherries and minerals. Not a lot of depth here at this point but this is a beautiful, elegant Volnay that should improve in the cellar. 91+
