Love the elegance and lightness of this port as opposed to some of the other more "better scoring" vintages. Lovely elegance of melted fruit, underbrush, and a tawnyish character that tells me this is a peak! Lovely acidity keeps it fresh and adds to the lightness, making this my kind of port. Drink!

This bottle was in perfect condition. No past seepage and the cork was still in great shape. Did a double decant for about 4 hours before enjoying. This is always a crowd pleaser.

From a half-bottle. Cork in top shape, only soaked to the first 1/4 of an inch. Nice dark ruby-black core. Upon opening, the aromas are open. Red and black fruit, floral components. On the palate, the attack is frank, very concentrated, luscious at first with a concentrated ball of dark fruit (blackberries, blueberries), violets, smoke and liquorice and then the tannin appear carrying this throughout the length. Eucalyptus and liquorice notes on the excellent length. A beauty, served with Stilton …

At New Polzeath, broken cork but perfect level, strained as decanted, mature colour, superb flavours, v complex and complete, long, persistent, concentrated and well balanced, upside yet, 30+ years. VF (18.5).....and vieing with Fonseca and Graham's for palm in this increasingly fine vintage.

Un porto de corps moyen, voire léger, qui s'exprime en finesse. Agréable, mais plutôt simple pour un port de cet âge.

Prune, medicine cabinet, olive oil, vanilla, cinnamon, orange zest, and a hint of alcohol on the nose. Rich, savory, aged. Caramel, plum, cherry, tannin, spice. Very long, earthy and leathery aftertaste.

Romjulsvin 2025 : Mye rødt igjen. Utrolig luftig og elegant port med urter, snarere enn julekrydder. Balansert og frisk, strålende finish. Akk, min siste flaske.

Drank over four days. Stood up a week in advance. Signs of seepage. Cork broke upon opening. Decanted for four hours and returned to the bottle. A pale garnet core fading to a pale tawny outer edge. A port that whispers rather than shouts and when it does you’ll hear raisins, kirsch, muscovado sugar, sweet baking spices, grated dark chocolate, and marzipan. While a little unbalanced due to the elevated alcohol and by no means the most profound of vintage …

Method: pop and pour; fridge temp; Riedel port glass Look: medium+ brown with some turbidity Nose: walnut, caramel, brown butter, raisin, baking spice, burnt sugar Palate: raisin, caramel; long finish brown butter, brown sugar, hint of burnt sugar, raisin; medium+ sweetness; full body; medium+ acidity; no noticeable tannin; low- heat Overall thoughts: Complex, tasty, balanced. Really great wine.

Opened late Xmas day and a rather austere, red fruited eaux-de-vie led scent and palate was revealed. Re-corked and brought back out for Boxing Day late lunch and an exceptional transformation had occurred. I can't think of another wine I've had that so completely flipped from average to pretty darn amazing. Fuller, rounder, more complete and layered with gorgeous dark berry fruit and satin tannins. Decant in advance for best results the obvious lesson. It's still got another 15-20 years …

1985 Taylor’s Vintage Port – Tasting Note 94/95 Deep garnet in colour with moderate concentration and clear bricking at the rim. The nose is pronounced and immediately expressive, showing raisin, fig, prune and dried plum, layered with caramel, almond, mocha and sweet baking spices — notably cinnamon and allspice — alongside hints of polished wood. The palate is full-bodied with high alcohol, delivering warmth and a subtle spicy lift. Rich caramel and mocha notes dominate, supported by dried fruits and …

Christmas Party in New Hope (Chez Walker - New Hope, PA) : Last bottle of six opened to taste through dinner. Had post dinner over conversation and some with dessert. Decanted, was open close to 4 hours by the time we drank it. Cork popped through when attempting to extract with a Durand, stayed in tact. Pink and purple hued, translucent, opaque at the core. Aromatic with caramel, brandy, candied fruits. Palate of cherry/chocolate, plum candy, strawberry jam, baking spice/cinnamon. …

This has the structure to age, which is good, because it needs far more time in bottle. Still angular, unbalanced and a bit acidic, with heat on the finish. This was from a magnum, so likely more youthful than a 750, but so far from ready, I would suggest waiting.

92 pts

A bit hot straight out of the decanter but the next day it had mellowed nicely. Polished, red and black fruits up front, with a depth of dried fruits lingering in the background. No rush at all with this wine!

Reviews for this are all over the map. It’s my second time with this wine and I absolutely love it. I may be crazy, but I get very typical licorice, tobacco and broiled plum fruit notes. Nothing over ripe to me. Great density and length. A really good time to drink. (95)

2021 Bourgogne Rouge (Chez moi) : Very porty! Quite hot and figgy, the alcohol is very prominent. Sounds odd even saying this but I think it could do with more time - possibly a lot more time - to coalesce a bit more! EDIT - one week later. Much improved, had calmed right down - no special care, just corked and left in the fridge. Super delicious. So either decant this well in advance or cellar it for a long …

I wrote quite a comprehensive note a couple of years ago, arguing that it might be on the way out. And now I'm not so sure. So typical of this maddening vintage to produce irregular wines. Raisins, dates and treacly, figgy sensations, and an exciting bitterness that combines thrillingly with the super-concentrated fruit and sweet spicy aromas. I am not sure what this wine's arc is, but right now it's very compelling.

Well this was a surprise. It is not ready at all. After 3 hours of decanting it was super alcohol heavy with herby notes. After 6 hours if decanting and a lot of swirling around, no progress. You could however all along taste there was greatness hidden, but it was in a high facility prison. After 18 hours in the decanter, finally, we got fruit. Blackcurrant, cherry, raisins. Now it was tasting good. But not super approachable still... It needed …

Taylor's Port Cellars - Tour and tasting (Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal) : Deep garnet colour. Cherry, blackberry, black currant, plum, raisins, orange peel, dark chocolate, herbal notes, mint, and spice, with good, acidity, well-integrated tannin, and very good length. Very spicy. Well-structured, and very complete. Fuller, and spicier than the 1994, with better concentration and better quality of fruit. Should age well. 93(+)

Final wine after three course meal during which we tried seven other wines, all of which we enjoyed. But this '77 Taylor was WotN. Smooth, complex, chocolate covered cherries in a glass. Ok 10 year old tawny. I should have shelled out more money for the 20 year old from this house. The 10 year old lacks the sweet caramel, the bouquet, and the "thickness" of his older brother. I have some Guinness in the fridge. Don't tell the Irish, but I will mix this port with some pints of Guinness. If you've never tried it, you should. It gives the Guinness a different feel.
