Bought at release from the winery and stored in cellar. No signs of age in the glass, garnet and no sediment. Initially had some alcohol and a little funk but after decanting 30 minutes it all blew off and nose was dark berries, some plum, spice and pepper but not overly pronounced. Med body, smooth tannins which have integrated well, med+ acidity and alcohol wasn’t noticeable. Great balance right now especially when served at cellar temp and showed some secondary …

Berries and stone fruit. Interestingly, the wine seems full-bodied but it isn’t a mouthful. A little salinity. Nice tart acids. Very sedate tannin. There will be no Day 2 report on this wine. It will be gone before the evening is over.

Second bottle of this. Not sure I like this one. There's an odd sourness on the back end that obscures the fruit. It's a bit heavy on the sweetness, coffee and chocolate, and it's out of balance. May be an off bottle, but I'm not enjoying this.

Deep red. Fruity, with heat and pepper on the nose. Good tannins, and bold acidity. Very fruity, with a long finish, but light on the palate, with lots of sour, savory and pepper. This is delicious now, but could stand a year or two in the bottle, or a long, long decant, to help balance out the wine and smooth out the rough edges.

Tasting at Mauritson Winery, Dry Creek (Mauritson Winery) : Purple fruit, black smoky oak tannins, licorice. Long black, bitter finish and a bit hot. Not heavy. A restrained style. Good but could use a little more polish.

Interesting wine, but last 1/3 of the profile has a strong metallic note well beyond the expected mineral profile of a Rockpile wine. TIme may help this to mellow without losing complexity.

@ the tasting room. Fairly tannic. Plum and currants. Leather. Big. Maybe could use a bit of time.

More like a Merlot than a Zinfandel. Great flavor, as there is a lot going on, but more on the mellow side.

Very good. Not typical zin. Less berries, more like claret. Dark, rich spice and maple tones. Delicious.

Fabulous Zin. Rich with gobs of fruit. Tremendous depth and length. Zin does not get much better.

Rich, opulent wine. With a pretty nose and smoked cherries on the palate. Just a wonderful balance of sweet, ripe fruit and perfectly grippy tannins. The low score by wine spectator is absolutely criminal in my opinion. One of my favorite zinfandels. Really hits the right balance between ripeness and structure. We bought this at the winery after tasting several other great zins that day and loved this one. When we opened it tonight, it did not disappoint one bit.

16.3% ABV. Dark black garnet, slightly translucent. Sweet smelling with red fruit and maple overtones and a little peppery earth. Sweet attack with sappy red berry fruit and late acidity. Good. Works pretty well as a after-dinner wine.

Sweet maple nose with of touch of alcohol showing. Rich sweet black and red berry fruit. Lingering finish. Enjoyed this.

Napa-Noma, May 2008: Pretty, spicy nose. Cloves. Sweet jammy fruit. Nice. About 250 cases.
