The wine is clear with a pale, tawny colour and a slight petillance. The nose is clean with medium aromas of red cherries, herbs, liquorice, cloves and earth. The pallet is dry with high acidity and medium plus tannins. Alcohol is medium plus. The body is medium with medium flavours of red cherries, herbs, liquorice, cloves and cooked red plums. The finish is medium. The wine is of a very high quality. It didn’t go very well with grilled, red …

One of two left from a case. WE rated the vintage 88 in Sicily, similar to elsewhere in Italy which had a brutally hot summer. Lots of ripe fruit here and full body compared to most vintages of this wine, now leaning more in the direction of dried fruits. This has a richness now that reminds me of their cru wines at twice the price, proof that buying "normale" wines from a top organic producer and giving them five or …

At age 8 it's in great shape; apparently even their entry-level rosso is built for the long haul. Lots of freshness and good structure still present. I could be wrong but I think '17 was considered an excellent vintage on Etna? At least more so than in Tuscany or Piedmont. Translucent ruby color is as expected. Macerated raspberry and cherry on the nose and palate, an excellent beam of acidity carrying through to a moderately tannic finish. Nerello mascalese is …

Kirsch minze sehr fruchtig frisch tabak noch leicht adstringierend reif etwas unrund und kantig. Sehr früh gelesen? Vllt um die Säure zu erhöhen?

This was an intense wine. Red fruited - cranberry, strawberry, cherry - with a real jolt of acidity, some tannins, slight bitterness and power in a medium bodied, electric wine. Very interesting and unique (A-).

Bra för den tidens prislapp. Ca 160 kr. Välgjort, snyggt och hyfsat innehållsrikt. Inget stort vin men väl värt att ha av hemma!

A blend of young-vine (5 to 50 years) Nerello Mascalese (95%) and Nerello Cappuccio (5%) sourced from all the Terre Nere vineyards. Fermented spontaneously, aged for 12 months in large (1000 to 3000-liter) French oak foudres. 14% alcohol. Deep, luminous and moderately dark ruby color with an almost colorless rim. The overall appearance seems very slightly more youthful than that of the 2018 vintage sitting in the neighboring glass. The nose feels fragrant, characterful and very attractive with aromas of …

Still burly for the appellation and definitely requires food in accompaniment, but the tannins and harshness from a year ago have softened out significantly and it’s a far better drop than on release.

These really come into their own after some extra time post release - this was now nicely even if only slightly evolved, a littlle bit of dried strawberries but more raspberry, cherry, violet and roses, minerals and herbs. Very nice sandy tannins, fresh acidity.

Medium garnet color with aromas of strawberries and red cherries. Some decent fruit up front with flavors of cranberries and red cherries. Mid palate has some good minerality and medium acidity which continues into the finish. Great finish with minerality and persistent polished tannins. Long aftertaste of 45-60 seconds. Today I would score it 91 pts which is pretty impressive for a $20 wine.

A bit harsh and almost bitter. Softened with some time, nice blackberry nose. Works well with meat and sauce

Another great Terre Nere Etna Rosso, it has lots of Nerello Mascalese character and Terre Nere pedigree, but it is a bit different than the “typical” TN ER because this 17 (L41118) seems to be a bit bigger and more tannic than many other vintages. Redolent of cranberries and sour cherries, the wine has a medium ++ body, savory acids, very firm tannins, and a long, very mineral and bittersweet finish. I loved it. However, those who don't like bitter …

Raspberry pie on the nose. Puckish with awkward acidity in its youth. Plenty of stuffing and plush, powdery tannins hint at at the promise of refinement to come.

Agree with notes here that this appears rough on opening. Other comments here recommend approaching it on day 2- which I'm doing currently and it much more balanced. It still has those black tea tannins so this requires food, but the fruit is more in balance with the alcohol, acidity and tannins on day two.

The dryness and power of the tannins overwhelmed the moderate amount of black fruit.

Hard to beat this wine for the price. It. is a wonderful everyday wine with notes of cherry and red fruit. Very light but still flavorful. I enjoyed this with some ribs, and the match up was great.

decanted. some nights want to pay attention, some nights just want straightforward red wine. this fulfills the latter, without encouraging superlatives. happy to have it accompany food, but there's some heat in the middle & espresso roast tannins that suggests drinking mostly sooner, before that's all that remains. shell pasta w/pork & sausage ragu w/yellow eye beans

A little muddy in the color and initial aroma gave way to kick ass acidity and a finish that showcased dark red fruit like cherry, some light black fruit like blackberry and a touch of minerality. Had with pasta in light tomato sauce, the leftovers with Korean short ribs. Will have it again.

I’ve been enjoying the wines of Tenuta delle Terre Nere since I was first introduced to them a handful of years ago or so. One thing that is very obvious is how much their wines vary from vintage to vintage...sometimes it’s dramatic. This 2017 vintage is predominantly dark fruited with powerful, almost rustic tannins. A slightly hulking verson of Nerello Mascalese that doesn’t need a lot of thought. Quaffable. Drink now but could hold for a few years with ease, …

This lacked the finesse of previous vintages. While good, it seemed to be marked by a hot year, with darker fruit, a bit more heat and grainy, rustic, tannins. Some of this may resolve itself with time, but this was a bit of a disappointment.

Fresh and bright red berries, raspberry, some nice VA, but not showing the funk of the 2014, good acidity, fair wack of tannin. Good but the 2014 was more impressive

Night one pop and pour: a Nose sugared cherry, dried rose, almond. Reminds me of orgeat syrup, fairly distinctive. Palate has that same mix with some stone too and, unfortunately, a bit of a cooked fruit character that makes it less fresh than expected/hoped. Night two: on the nose, the fruit is decidedly less cherry and more mixed berry, still some rose and almond but joined by more pronounced earth and especially mineral character, and even some evergreen and mint. …
