Erik's. Dark purple with suave dark fruits, graphite, minerals, and some charcoal notes. A very sophisticated, dialed-back malbec.

Deep ruby, bit purplish, fairly opaque to the rim. Smells like dark black and blue fruits and graphite. Smooth, round, and supple in the mouth, with medium (+) body, acid, and finish, and flavors of dark fruits, lemon, barrel spice, and minerals. Well balanced malbec. It's fruity, but there's nice spice and acid keeping it in check. Pretty good. Haven't had too much (red wines) from Salta.

Dense and weighty. Bramble fruit. Dark wine, a bit monolithic. Easy to drink but needs to develop a bit.

Striking inky purple color, reminiscent of Cahors. Dark plum and dried strawberry, cigar box, toast and baking spice on the nose. Full bodied, robust and round, with a creamy texture and fine-grained tannins supporting the earthy palate of lush dark fruit spice, hints of truffle and licorice which lingers on the palate, giving you time to savor this deep, dark and excellent, Malbec. An astounding value.

Black fruit and grippy tannins after 20 minute decant … but quickly evolving into tons of red and velvety, well integrated tannins after an hour. Cherry, raspberry, red plum, and leather with good acidity for Malbec (high elevation) and a nice finish. Amazing qpr.

Opaque, almost black. Edge just going a bit reddish. Large bq w blackberry, spices, cedar box, dark plums, herbs. Full body w plenty of ripe fruit, both dark and red, plenty of nice acidity, sandy tannins. Aftertaste w some alcohol. In all, a good balance for such a powerful wine. Not unlike an Aussie Shiraz.

2021: Top Ten Wines; 1/1/2021-12/31/2021 (Redwood City, CA) : Revisiting after a year in the cellar. Gave about 3h air. Inky purple color. Aromas of red plum, black cherry, baking spices, cigar box and truffle. Creamy and rich on the palate, with red and black fruit, truffle and a peppery finish against a backbone of chalky tannins. This has depth and earthiness and I suspect will just keep improving for at last another 5 years.

Revisiting this high-altitude Malbec. Dark purple color. Aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, leather and forest floor. Full-bodied, rich, creamy texture, flavors of tar dark fruit, earthy notes and a spicy lift in the finish, framed by sinewy tannins. This remains a favorite, consistent wine, dense with a lot of character. Happy I have more left, going to give them some time and see what evolution remains in store.

High altitude Malbec, from a producer of consistent quality. Made of grapes from 4 different estate vineyards, ranging from 1,700-3,100 metres. Aged 15 months in French oak barrels. 6 months in bottle. Inky purple color. Bold aromas of dark plum, raspberry, sweet tobacco, coriander and green olives. Full-bodied, supple on the palate, with juicy flavors of dark plums, red fruit, a backbone of sinewy tannins and peppery finish. Lovely already, room to evolve over the short term.

I like this. The first sip was deep dark and tannic, with nice density. As it opened, more of the red fruit and floral notes came out, but still with a substantial and grippy finish that sometimes goes missing in malbec; nice acidity as well. Some black tea notes balance the violates for a profile that appeals to me.

I cannot better describe this wine better than CT member CONO_SUR whose notes I reiterate as if mine. Bravo to him on nailing this. I reduced this by 1 point to 90 because, while I liked the wine, the peppery nature is not my favorite.

Fresh, medium-high intensity has complex peppery spice, earth, dark berry, blackberry, dark plum, and hints of purple fruit aromas. It's medium-full bodied with fresh, vibrant acidity lifting the spicy aroma replays. Supple tannins are a touch tight at the moment. Excellent length on the long, balanced finish. Score: 90+ pts

Uber dry. This one probably needs to age a bit to round out. I also think we didn’t do it justice by making it a late addition to the evening and basically pulling the cork and then drinking promptly rather than decanting, things were a bit too sharp. Super oak, plum and ripe blackberry.

Alpine wines (Dino's Grotto - Washington, DC) : Deep purple color. Aromas are dark and tart with blackberry, blueberry, plum, with lots of loamy earth, cocoa, mint and graphite. Tangy acidity frames the wine nicely, balancing the moderate tannins, the balance is on point. Blackberry and tart blueberry, laced with mineral, graphite, earth. So pure and lively, this is showing very well now but I’d like to see it with a few years of age.

Deep and dark and sensuous. Blackberries and cherries, earthy, smoky oak, a hint of cinnamon. Lovely texture: thick, creamy, velvety. Dark and earthy on the palate, with nice integration through the finish. This is drinking better than the 2013, but with less potential.

A bottle rarely lasts more than a day in our house. A combination of being the 2nd wine opened w dinner one night and poor first impressions resulted in a glass left for consumption on day 3. We discussed how WS missed the boat on this one with its TOP 100-92pt rating. Then Day 3 blew me away with rich texture and mocha flavors. Made me wish I either decanted all day or left the whole bottle open 2 nights.

Cafayete - this is high altitude Malbec. Clear, deep purple with heavy legs - lost of alcohol. Bit of nail polish on the nose at the beginning fades off into fruity red ripe plums and dark ripe cherries in liquor. Medium body, still youthful. Dry, with medium acidity and tannins and high in alcohol. Oak and charred wood flavored. Good quality Malbec, that needs some time to open up.
