My second bottle of this wine. Both were stored in the same conditions in my home cellar. The first, tasted in 2024, was already descending, but this one was in surprisingly good shape. Dark-red color with noticeable brown reflexions. Quite a lot of sediments in the bottle. The nose is already past its prime, but with airing it displays typical Merlot plum aromas, with fine vanilla from oak. In the mouth the wine is noticeable better: plush dark plums prevailing …

I liked this better than the recently tasted 2005, but the different tasting circumstances make comparisons hazardous. The broad character remains the same, namely lean without being austere, but on this occasion the oak seemed better integrated.

2003 vintage

The oak protrudes a bit, but this is probably due at least in part to coming just after a completely un-oaked wine. Underneath, the wine is balanced if somewhat lean. Unlikely to improve much. Satisfying, so long as you don't expect too much. Should work better paired with lamb; on this occasion, did not really work with the cheese board.

Good, not great. Quite a few years ahead of it. Very nice QPR.

Always my favourite Fourcas, which produces CC standard wines year after year. The 05 is possibly the best yet, full of searing blackcurrant and dark cherry, with a strong streak of wild strawberry in the middle section before a long, satisfying finish. Full-bodied, with some tannins to resolve, but without the rather unpleasant tannic whiplash other 05s suffer from. It's drinking well now but will probably improve further.
