Macarico Rosso Del Vulcano

Nice buy for around $12. Started with some noticable VA but that blew off with a quick decant, bringing a fruit-forward aroma with hints of spice. Fruity, but in an austere, aglianico way. After being open a couple of hours I started to pick up some tarry notes as well. Good balance and complexity, esp. for the price.

Dark Crimson, clear, N - smoke ,fennel, meaty,with sweetness of black cherries in the background, maybe some coffee. P - similar flavor to nose, more minerality on palate, and good tannins that are ripe and soft enough to add rather than detract. Good QPr. Finish is good med+. Should improve with a bit more bottle time, but is a good food wine for hearty fare, grilled meat, rustic stew (rabbit with olives and polenta) would be a perfect pairing.
